Haha, well, you see, those two albums were made by the same band (Tribes of Neurot is an alter-ego) and were designed to be played together. Sounds gimmicky I'm sure - the Tribes album is very much ambience and electronic stuff, but it's actually not a bad listen on its own. The Neurosis one is of course slow and droning and crushing and loud.
But to play them together, it's really damn cool.
And please don't say they could have just mixed the two albums onto one CD. It wouldn't be the same I tells you.
quasimoto is madlib. madlib is quasimoto. madlib is a hiphop producer/rapper. quasimoto is the high-pitched madlib character. so it's basically madlib doing the beats, madlib and quasimoto doing the raps. it's a one-person project. it's rap about weed, mostly. it's good.Haha, sounds interesting . . I know, haha. Some of my friends were really into them, and my boyfriend saw Neurosis a few months ago. Personally I like the Tribes stuff better, but that's because I'm not into the "crushing" feeling and Neurosis wasn't melodic enough for me. All in all I LOVE ambient/drone music, though. I am trying to get to know it better. Actually, if anyone has good music of that sort, I would love to hear from you.
Also, I love the song Julia... because, well, it is my name. My mom used to sing it to me. *Emo moment*

Pizzicato Five - Baby Love Child
There's this episode of Futurama, in which Leela finds out who her parents are; that they're not aliens, but mutants. And at the end, there's an assortment of scenes which show all the times her parents were watching over Leela without her knowing. Part of the Pizzicato Five song plays over this.
The music is more or less upbeat, by itself. The collection of scenes on mute are also generally happy. But when combined, I don't know why, it takes on this whole other bittersweet and elegiacal tone. It almost makes me want to cry. I mean, I think it's just because I have some mother/father issues, but I can't escape this feeling.
Oh well, it's quite likely that I'm just a fucking moron. I think I'm gonna listen to Either/Or, by Elliott.

I don't think "almost" is the word. I've not uttered a single articulate sound (like the guy in the hole in Life of Brian) since friday. Not one. Haven't been logging onto MSN/AIM for a few days either, so this is my sole method of communication for the moment.
And even Elliott isn't sad enough for me anymore, it's terrible. I demand anti-catharsis.
Mr. Hate, a friend of mine in South Carolina (ok, not a friend, just a guy I know) sent me a copy (burned, of course) of the Beach Boys cover album, Smiling Pets. It's damningly expensive to buy, so I'm lucky there . . it's really awesome. FORMS (from BoH, as I expect you know) also cover a song, Heroes & Villains.
Other bands include Melt Banana doing Surfin' USA
Elliott Smith - Last Call. I'm just going through the entire discography
valin
05-19-2005, 01:37 AM
Elliott is sad in an ironic way, so I suppose if you are depressed enough it won't even matter. Would you send me his self-titled, if you have it?
I often have considered not speaking for periods of time. Verbally, at least. I can't get away with it, though... people pester me.
Communication is a great effort for some. I am hardly an articulate person, although grammar, spelling, writing, etc. come easily to me. Speaking is just hard. Mouth movements, vocal vibrations. When you're feeling down, it's hard to care. But, to me, it's easier to say something than to endure others bugging me about why I am so quiet.
Since this isn't the emo thread, I'll stop there.
Moevot again - Wolken, Ma Vie
cubist
05-19-2005, 01:50 AM
Send, how? I could spend eight or nine hours uploading it (56k, you do the math), as it's one of the CDs I ripped before my drive stopped working. Or I could make someone burn it and mail it to you, but that sort of thing involves talking. Which I'm quite good at not doing.
Also, we should start an emo thread. Arhar.
Anyway. It's funny, s/t was always the Elliott CD I wanted. I first found out about him after watching The Royal Tenenbaums, where part of Needle in the Hay is played. But I couldn't find it; I bought Either/Or first, and all but his first and last CD after this, but s/t was never in stores. By the time I finally bothered to make my record store order it in, got it, etc. Either/Or was my favourite. Good thing I "settled" for that one.
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (don't ask me which track, I've never listened to one by itself since I bought it some months ago)
valin
05-19-2005, 02:08 AM
Kind of Blue! Haha. I just had that CD sent to me YESTERDAY.
And I meant transmit Elliott Smith to me via AIM, but then again, you said yourself that you haven't been using it. Plus, since your hard drive apparently hates you, well, I don't know what you're able to do. I would seriously send you any music you wanted in return. I really want the self-titled... because you're right: it can't be found anywhere. One of these days I will get it!
I found out about Elliott from my brother, a few years ago. And my ex is obsessed with him, so I got a great deal of it from that source. I wish I were Elliott Smith, except not dead. Or suicidal.
Anyway, this is all kind of irrelevant with the topic. Time to make the emo thread. Hah.

Have you ever played the game of Exquisite Corpse? (I'm not sure if the game is named for the CD or the CD for the game, but I'm guessing the latter.)
Yeah, the game's a lot of fun, and I can see why the album was named after it.

Go find some taste, then come back.
Now Playing:
Secret Chiefs 3 - Book of Truth - Book of Horizons - The Electromagnetic Azoth - On the Wings of the Haoma.
Fuck yeah. [insert pretentious remarks here]
Allow me to explain.
Secret Chiefs 3: Name of the "band" (read: dictatorship)
Book of Truth: Name of current project, a three album meta-work
Book of Horizons: Name of the first part of the Book of Truth.
The Electromagnetic Azoth: Name of one of the six (seven?! Nobody knows yet . . ) sub-bands, each of which represents not only a certain musical style, but a certain theological/metaphysical idea, not to mention a geometric representation which is based on lunar/solar cycles, and is also used to calculate when the energies of one band must be channeled into another, and to what degree. The Electromagnetic Azoth in particular serves as a central point in a hexagonal diagram, chanelling the energy from the "fan" (possibly the seventh band, possibly meant to mean the actual listner themselves) as if a white light, and distrubutes all the different "colours"/styles among the other bands - the four alchemical colours for the four bands on the lunar and solar sides, and obscuring the band below Azoth which is shrouded in darkness. Azoth itself is perhaps the prism, the central point of convergence, as all styles seem to pop their head up. Quite possibly, the reason it is called The Electromagnetic Azoth - we all know electromagnetism is the entire array of electric and magnetic fields, light, x-rays, you know, everything. Azoth is the old name for Mercury, which was/is thought by alchemists to be the metal from which all other metals can be made . . you seeing the connections here?
And I am not even scratching the surface . . that would be like cutting diamonds with talcum. To adequately explain every theological, metaphysical, mathematical, esoteric reference, idea, and exploration in this trilogy you would need a book longer than the bible. No joke, I am not exaggerating.
On the Wings of the Haoma: (finally . .) Name of the song.
Yay.

Why can't bands just write songs and give them uncomplicated labels? Damn.
You (or someone else) should send me some Secret Chiefs 3. I only have a few songs... but I like 'em, for the most part. I'd appreciate it.

Haha, 'Clocks' is the sole reason I was so hesitant to listen to their newer stuff.
And actually Moses, Play Crack the Sky is about a thousand times more "emo" than Good To know If I Need Attention all I Have To Do Is Die. And if you think that's bad, listen to something like The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot.
I like Brand New a lot. Deja Entendu is one of my top favorite CD's of all time. I like Jude Law and The Semester Abroad as well, but it doesn't sound much like Deja.
