Is there any way to turn the text off on my icons on my Windows desktop?

Do u mean the things such as "My Computer" icons on your desktop? You are trying to remove the labels?

right click the icon and hit rename, then for the name hit alt+255 then hit enter. For each item named this way you have to punch in alt+255 another time.

First Item: alt+255
second: alt+255 alt+255

and so on

The 'Alt+255' thing is the technical equivalent of entering a 'space' for a name.
