The Ultimate Nintendo Mail Bag is back by popular demand. UNMB has had many successful volumes in the past and it is only going to get better. MachRider has decided to step down, and therefore leaving me, Throwback the Duck, in charge. I will be implementing some changes for the better as well. For those of you who are new or need a refreshment, UNMB is the definitive source for questions you have regarding Nintendo, GameCube, and it's current and upcoming games. I plan to continue to give IGNCube's Nquery a run for it's money. Fran the Goat simply can not match the expertise I, T'back, carry in this field. Also, in addition to Nintendo questions, I will be allowing questions about me now. Remember questions only, no comments allowed. Finally, starting now each volume of UNMB will last TWO weeks, instead of 1 week.
So now UNMB is back in action and better than ever, plus its hosted by the great Throwback the Duck.
Here is a picture of me that was taken at my local KMART.
Question 1: What happened to all of the platnium gamecubes? Nintendo still advertises them, but I never see them at stores. Where they really a "special limited edition"?
Question 2: Do you know anything about the supposed "Halo Killer" that sega is working on? I remember reading about this in the rumor section of EGM.

The platinum GCNs are still around, your local stores must be sold out.
I haven't heard anything about a Sega Halo killer, probably because it won't be for GCN. If you want a Nintendo Halo killer get Geist.
Mario Kart is scheduled to release on November 17. Which means you'll see it in stores around the 18th. The demo is said to be the current in-store GCN demo that has Rebel Strike, Wallace and Grommit, Viewtiful Joe, F-zero and some other stuff.

Question 1: Will Sony and Microsoft lower the prices of their consoles in response to the gamecube's new $100 price?
Question 2: When will we finally see the release of Final Fantasy: CC? and will you have to have 4 GBAs if 4 players want to play it?
Question 3: With sony and its SP and PS3 coming up, is Nintendo doomed next generation?

Neptune:
1) Most likely, knowing PS2 and Microsoft and how agressive they are. We should see them most likely go down to 150 before the end of their lifespan.
2) Sometime in Spring of 2004, they haven't given a concrete release date yet. Also, on the Japanese version you were required to have GBAs for your friends to play. Some speculate though, that with so much time in between the JAP and American releases Nintendo is fixing that. Most likely though it will require GBAs for your friends. Thats why I am looking forward to Tales of Symphonia more.
3) No, Nintendo is not doomed. I think on the hardware front they'll gain back some of the market they lost with the GCN. I just hope Nintendo doesn't mess up with the next GameBoy. It seems so ironic the way the Playstation is arriving to confront the GameBoy. It reminds me so much of how the SNES was out with its 2d graphics and then the Playstation came out. Nintendo paid little attention to the PSX until it was too late. Now its like dejavu or whatever. Nintendo's got there 2d catridge machine out and now Sony's got a new 3d cd bases machine coming. Nintendo better play its cards straight.
3) Yes, I've briefly spoken with some guys at Retro before at one of the E3s I attended. Mach has more connections than me though. They didn't say anything about Metroid Prime 2. I do know some of the n-Space guys.

QUESTION 1: I'd like to know your personal opinion on TRUE CRIME. is it going to be a GTA killer?
QUESTION 2: Is GTA available in Japan? If so, how is it treated over there? Does it sell in Japan?
1) I don't think True Crime is a GTA killer. I'd compare the games like this. SuperMario 64=GTA and True Crime=Banjo Kazooie. Both are good games, but SuperMario is the more polished and fun game. True Crime is looking to be really good, its just hard to think of Activision, with its track record of mediocre quality, could topple a game that redefined a genre. But remember, never say never.
2) GTA I believe was just recently released in Japan. I think Capcom released it over there. Well when I visited Japan they liked western movies and music, not games. Japanese really don't care for foreign products or shooters. They prefer RPGs, platformers, party games, and quirky games.
I think it might get into the top 5 or 10, but it won't sell spectacular though

Sorry throwback, but it didn't look like you were going to respond to that question so I did. And since I'm at it Ill answer the Midway question too.
Midway says its "coming Fall 2003" The games title is Midway Arcade Treasures. Alright Throwback, I'll let you answer the rest of the questions. Oh and T'back remember what I told you about Stealth. Don't give any in-depth info on our projects unless I say its ok.

Question: I was highly looking forward 2 an awesome christmas lineup of MGS:TTS, Prince of Persia, and FF:CC. but now FF:CC and MGS:TTS are being pushed back. so i figure i'll ask for true crime and prince of persia still, but will there be any other mature games coming out b4 christmas?

Well lets see if your into more mature themed games coming out before Christmas I'd look out for Freedom Fighters, Viewtiful Joe, Celebrity Deathmatch, Resident Evil Code Veronica, StarWars: Rebel Strike, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (old school mature), Gladius, XII, LotR: Return of the King, Medal of Honor: The Rising Sun, James Bond: Everything or Nothing, Spawn, Rogue Spear, and possibly Enclave (might have changed)

Does Shiggy smoke dope? j/k I've been wondering, in the first Pikmin game, Capt. Olimar was able to control up to 100 pikmin with him at all times correct? In Pikmin 2, Olimar now has his buddy Loogi to help him via splitscreen. Does this mean we'll now have control of up to 200 Pikmin using both Olimar and Loogi at the same time?

How much does a GCN cost to make Nintendo? I had always thought that after Sony lowered their price of the ps2 to 199, Nintendo was the only one making a profit on their system... however I read an article lately that Nintendo had begun contracting the construction of the system out (like Microsoft does) and was in fact losing money at 199$... and that only Sony was\is turning a profit. Whats the scoop?

Do not question my duckness. I cannot give away too much of my current status but I can once again state that I am an employee at Stealth IE, and a very close friend of MachRider. He has a real name but I leave that undisclosed. Haha and to think you guys thought I was pulling a Steele..couldn't be further from the truth.

Ok Dork, yes he does smoke. The idea as it stands now is to still have 100 at your command.
Peasant..I think Nintendo is making a tiny little profit still with its current price. Probably under $10.

Of course its possible for some sort of headset contraption for the GC, but most likely Nintendo will never release one as there is little need to do so.

this might be a bit of an odd question, but i was wondering how companies that make games for all consoles decide how certain games will be exclusive to one system. as with the final fantasy series. sure gamecube is getting crystal chronicles which is much appreciated, how come say a final fantasy x-2 or kingdom hearts is selected for ps2, for example.

$$ from whom? the company buys the right to have it only for their console, or does the game company decide it wnt be profitable to release it for all systems. i think the final fantasy series would sell well on all consoles obviously.

Alright, see in Final Fantasy's case, after the SNES, Square through their support to Sony's Playstation line. They thought the system's format was ideal, yatta yatta ya. So they have released a long line of Final Fantasy games thus they want to continue releasing FF games primarily for the PS2. Now with Nintendo and Square working together we should see a more balanced distribution of Square's games...if they sell well on Nintendo's consoles. (Hint get all your friends to buy it, cuz it helps).
See mainly companies choose to release certain exclusive games for certain platforms because of demographics, psychographics, and user base. They also look at what genres tend to sell better on that system. Sports game don't sell to well on GCN, so Sega pulled there sports. Capcom said GCN has a hardcore, old school action fan base, so it released Viewtiful Joe.
Other times it may be because one of the Big three console makers slipped some cash into their hands for a special exclusive deal. Also other times it may be because a company has a bias or a predetermined notion about a particular console that may or may not be true.

Actually Peasant, UNMB Volume 8 will open this Sunday! If it seems like this Vol 7 feels longer than usual its because it is. Remember I stated that one of the things I made different now that I'm in charge was that I was making each volume last 2 weeks. Its easier to release volumes because they dont get so unsightly big, they are easy for people to refer back to when in different volumes, and different volumes will have different volumes.
Right now the VJ and K7 for PS2 is just a rumor right now. All I can do is hope it doesnt come true.
So how do you like this volume so far? Has it been helpful? Also I'm planning on letting a member be the special guest host of UNMB Volume 8. If you'd like to have the honor and you think you've got the knowledge and what it takes to run and answer questions or you'd at least like to try, just post here that you would or PM me. And if your interested in doing it but you only want to do it for one out of the 2 weeks, I might be able to arrange that. So post if your interested...

I would take Niagra....And for your second q: No, MGS:TTS was pushed back simply because Silicon knights needed more time to polish/fine tune things up. Remember SK is notoriously known for delays and long dev periods.
Metroid was supposed to come out in the time period of late 2004-mid 2005..Though some people say it may be delayed for the N5
