Anybody else here like it? Stuff along the lines of Gorillaz/Massive Attack/Portishead. I recently borrowed a Portishead (their self-titled one) from a friend and put it on my iPod, and love it. I especially like "Humming"

You really need to check out TRS-80. They are fucking amazing.

TRS-80 (http://trs80.com/)

We'll be having less of that, Gunpei.

I've never heard of this genre before, but I did like listen to some of Gorillaz' songs.

Anyways, TRS-80 kicks all of those bands asses.

I've only heard a few TRS-80 songs, and I wouldn't call them 'Trip-Hop'.
I would call them electronica.
But then again I am not very good at differentiating between genres.
I definitely like some (excelent) Massive Attack songs, and also Gorrilaz and Cibo Matto.
And because I don't know genres very well, I just Media Library Searched for "Trip Hop" in Winamp.
I got the following:
Bjork
DJ Shadow
Unkle
And some other miscelaneous artists.
Some were just wrong, also.

yeah, DJ Shadow's good. You should check out Portishead, I like the song "Humming" by them.

And yeah, I'm not sure if TRS-80 really qualifies as trip-hop, but it's good nonetheless.

You're entitled to your opinion.

Actually its not an opinion, its a fact. TRS-80 is light years ahead of any other electronic music out there now.

Oh yeah and I think TRS-80 would know what kind of music they are...

right from there home page

"TRS-80 the band. Live electronic music from Chicago. Experimental trip-hop ambient dub drum & bass."

Ra. (http://www.raspage.com)

Anyways, they don't have enough hip-hop influence to be trip-hop in my opinion.

LMFAO. Go to their site you douche bag and watch their videos. Go listen to the songs "Translocated", "I Am Energy", and "Thongs and Bongs" and tell me Ra is light years ahead of TRS-80. :ha:

I admit that I know very little about any TRS-80 songs other than, 'Phantom Power', 'Time Leverage', '100 Miles Per hour', and 'Naturescent'.
I couldn't find those songs you said, so I can't talk about them.
But I believe that Autechre is the most musically advanced electronica group of our time.
Their music is extremely unconventional, complex and challenging, but also enjoyable to listen to.
While TRS-80 is good, from what I've heard, they are not light years ahead of Autechre.
Or Aphex Twin.
Personally, I don't hear the Trip-Hop aspect of their music, and I don't hear the experimental aspect either.
But I could be wrong about them.
But what I am very sure of is that Autechre is the most ahead-of-it's-time electronica group that I have ever heard.
I also think that TRS-80 sounds slightly similar to Amon Tobin.

Another thing.
I think it's pretty difficult to compare TRS-80 to Ra.
Ra's style of sound and music is relatively new, (dDamage did it first though.)
I'm willing to guess that Ra is more experimental, while TRS-80 is more conventional, sound-wise.
Ra keeps his music in motion, while TRS-80 takes on a more relaxed pace, structure-wise.
I love Ra, while I sort of like TRS-80, preference-wise.

I couldn't find any of those songs you mentioned, but I did go to their site before I posted saying I thought Ra was better. But yeah, in terms of sound, they're not that far ahead of bands like Autechre, see if you can download Eutow or Vletrmx (Plaid Mix).

I did, however, listen to a few more of their songs, and I really liked "Naturescent" and rescend my former opinion. That is, if they have a lot of songs like that. They're on my "to buy" list now.
Anyways, go to Ra's site and watch the Panic video, the song in that is really great, I think you'd like it.

Haha, and Boggy, I've been trying to point out a good Portishead song to you, but you keep ignoring it :(

::edit:: thought it'd be a good time to plug in my techno (http://www.myspace.com/minotek) ... lol

Oh yeah!
I completely forgot to say what I'm about to say now.
I did download 'Humming' before I posted my last post.
I really like it.
It reminds me of the caverns level in Goldeneye, but when I think about it, it doesn't.
But for some reason, most songs I listen to end up reminding me of some video game or another.

Also, I borrowed Portishead's 'Dummy' album, and ripped it to my computer (primitive file-sharing, yo!)
Is it just me, or does the start of 'Wandering Star' sound like a sample used in Eminem's Lose Yourself?
I mean, I don't know, I might be completely wrong.
I never payed much attention to it when it was popular.

I'm not sure whether or not I've heard "Wandering Star" yet, I've only heard bits of 'Dummy'. But yeah, Humming reminded me of video games too, except for me it was the haunted house level on Banjo-Kazooie.
