Now I'm in my element...

Revenge; Thy Beautiful Duty

There you all stand, pathetic beings
Enrapt in your pride
And your shameful honour
Set to do battle with all who cross you
Man, woman, child
The baby born last night
All must submit to your laws

Evil draws men as light does flies
The evil of battle calls to you all
Run, to the aid of your friend
Or the fall of your enemy
Or merely your light entertainment
But run, you cannot be excused
Your bloodlust is calling

Lo, mankind, you grow in packs
Each at the throat of the other
Unspoken treaties and feuds lie everywhere
His battle is your battle
And he will die by your hand
Revenge is your beautiful duty
And friendship requires bloodied hands

'Tis a sad day on Earth when
Mankind rushes to watch death and destruction
But turns a blind eye to peaceful virtue
When a murder will pull the ears
Of those miles away
And a deed of kindness will not be noticed
By the man standing next to you
When honour must be saved by the sword
And when faithfulness is proved in battle

Oh mankind, weep
For there's blood on your hands
And death in your eyes

I personally found it a tedious read, but I'm sure many will like it, keep up the good work!

*agrees with Damarus*

Although it`s nice to see poems about something other than one`s personal emotions or whatnot.

This poem should not be read while listening to the Proclaimers`s 'I Would Walk 500 Miles'

this could just be me, but I always thought free verse poetry was invented by people who couldn't rhyme.

Or you just don't know a damn thing about poetry. Poems do not have to rhyme, in fact, nowdays most of the poems that actually get published don't rhyme that much.

This poem was meant to be spoken, not sung. Rhyming would kill it.

I liked this, especially the last 2 verses.
