... I can't fucking stop learning about good new music and it's driving me fucking insane ! aaah, I mean, I keep finding dope-ass new musical shit but I don't have the cash to get everything I want, it's kindof annoying, really.

first off, I just recently started listening to brian eno's music and it's really really good. I fucking love ambient music. it's all relax, no drum, nothing... just vibes and landscapes, it's so great, you put that shit in the background and you just fucking move around, it's travel music. I would recommend y'all his 'ambient' series, especially 'ambient 1: music for airport' and 'ambient 4: on land'. those are the 2 I heard, I bought On land just recently and it's really great. some small noises, little piano melodies, vibes and drones and shit, it's really coool.

second, uhmm, I bought a 'bola' record as well and it's really great. I honestly think that boggy would love this one. you get the really atmopsheric and dark electronic vibes with some crunchy glitches drums. kindof like a mixture of boards of canada's organic and mellow synths with autechre's glitchy-drums. I don't like comparaisons in music but this is what I can say to describe him. he has 3 albums out and they are all worth it, I got the most recent one called 'Gnayse' and it's really fucking awesome. the artwork is really amazing, too.

third, I like the new beck record.

fourth, that new venetian snares album is totally off the hook. absolutely wonderfull, actually his best album out (and I've heard most of them). you get the really emotive feels and shit with the heavy breakbeats. the whole vibe here is just great. the song structures are amazing and everything flows so perfectly. I like it all the way through.

now I'm waiting for this week to get autechre's brand new album. so exciting.

daaamn,

ps. you can use this thread to comment my musical discoveries or to talk about random musical discoveries of yours. keep music alive.

Yeah, there's so much good stuff out there it's hard to keep up with. Right now I'm listening to TRS-80 again, and as far as new stuff for me, I'm digging

BoomBip - You've probably heard this.

The Books - An experimental/electronic/indie/folk band, I really like it. Atmospheric, and you can relax and go to sleep to it.

Bonobo - Ambient stuff you can chill to.

Built to Spill - an indie band, I like em.

I'm also liking that new Snares album. It's fun to drive to. What else.. Book of Horizons, which is Secret Chiefs 3's new album, I got that a few weeks ago and really like it. That's mostly all the new stuff I've been listening to lately.

I love threads.

Now then...

I've already listened to Eno's 'Music For Airports' because I think RJD2 sampled one of the tracks on '...'... uhh... one of his Deadringer tracks.
I really like '2-1'.
Also, from Trainspotting, the song 'Deep Blue Day' is really nice.

While speaking of ambient, I've been poking around the minimalist electronic scene, which I find to be somewhat similar.
Pan Sonic makes some nice strange structureless beep-noise music, but most of their songs are probably just minimalist techno, which I enjoy too.

And one of the few Australian artists that I actually like!
Oren Ambarchi makes some nice minimalist ambient electronica.
I really like the song 'Suspension'.

Not to mention that I love Aphex Twin's 'Selected Ambient Works Volume II'.

Now, to say a few words about Bola.
I accidentally downloaded the song 'Veronex Cypher' when I was looking for the Radiohead BSide, 'Gagging Order'.
I also found Amon Tobin's 'Proper Hoodidge' while looking for the other BSide released at that time, 'I Am Citizen Insane'.
So anyway, Veronex Cypher didn't really hook me into Bola, but maybe I'm missing the big picture.

BECK!
I'm quite lucky to have just gotten into Beck recently, as I am in time to be ready for this new album.
The BOC Remix is excellent (as is usual for them.)
And I'm lucky to have found the special collectors edition of Guero at a reasonable price.
Lucky lucky!

I downloaded some 'The Books' on your reccomendation Johnny, but also because they collaborate with Prefuse 73 on an excellent song on his new album, 'Surrounded By Silence'.
I'm not sure if they're supposed to be doing any more collaborating, but I sure hope so.
I definately prefer the more electronic 'Books songs, like 'Tokyo', and some others from Lemon Of Pink.
I might decide to get that album sometime.
Maaayybeee...

One final point that I cannot stress enough:
Daedelus is awesome!
He's like the new DJ Shadow, but in a different way.
Oh yeah!

COMING SOON!

Cats will talk about the new Daedelus album, 'Exquisite Corpse'.
The new Prefuse 73 album, 'Surrounded By Silence'.
The new Beck album, 'Guero', and the DVD that comes with the special edition (brag brag.)
The new Boom Bip album, 'Blue Eyed In The Red Room'.
The new Venetian Snares album, 'Rossz something something'.
The new Fantomas album, 'Suspended Animation'.
The new (and first (and only)) General Patton Vs The X-Ecutioners album, which that is the name for, but it is by Mike Patton and The X-Ecutioners, which you never would have guessed.

Later on in the line of time, I will talk about the new Autechre album, 'Untilted'.
I haven't ordered it yet, but that must be the coolest album title and cover art that I have heard and seen in a long long time ago.

Stay tuned for updates as I search every inch of the internet for the new, recently released Jaga Jazzist album, 'What We Must'.

Until then,
KEEP WATCHING THE SKIES!!!

I got untilted today.

it looks good but I haven't haerd it yet and I probably won't before friday cause I have a shitload of exams this week :(

anyways, it's true that the name of the album is cool but the artwork is just... alright.

yo boggy, I can't wait to hear your thoughts on these albums, especially the new prefuse which I cannot kick myself and get it. I somehow think it looks not-so-good. anyways, good to see you getting new music.

btw, I really like that bola song you listed. maybe we have different opinions on him and it's just great like that !!!

and btw, you know what's great ?

I type stuff about cultural subjects on the website of an alternative french canadian newspaper called 'Voir' and it gives me some points. then, you can use those points to win stuff (like cds, tickets for shows, dvds...) it kinda works like ebay so the one who puts the most points win the stuff.

so far, I've won 3 cds.

interpol - antics (not quite my type of musical stuff but still pretty interesting straight up rock music)
dumas - le cours des jours (french canadian electro-pop artist, really cool and mellow, I like it a whole lot)
beck - guero (I haven't went there to get it but I won it last week... it's not the deluxe edition so I won't have the remixes (like that wonderfull BoC one) but still, it's cool to win it... I will probably tell you what I think about it when I get it and listen to it right...)

so you see, I like that way to get free records... plus they are pretty interesing. of course you won't get any venetian snares on there but still you can get some pretty nice 'mainstream' albums for free... just thought I would share this with you all.

so I cannot wait to hear the new autechre.

Hey, this guy really should be banned because all he seems to do is advertise.
Surely that's against the forum rules.
Besides, Soulseek is better.

So anyway, I got two new albums the other day.

Daedelus - Exquisite Corpse

This album is perfect.
Not a single bad song, they're all superb.
Quite a few collaborations too.
Allow me to expand upon that.
The MF Doom song is excellent.
The SCI song is excellent.
The Laura Darling song is excellent.
The Prefuse 73 song is excellent.
The TTC song is excellent.
The Cyne song is excellent.
The Mike Ladd song is excellent.
The Jogger song is excellent.
The Hrishikesh Hirway song is excellent.
All of those guests and the album still retains the Daedelus feel all the way through it.
I may be quick to say that this is one of the (if not THE) best album of 2005.
But I wouldn't say it if it couldn't be.

14/10

Prefuse 73 - Surrounded By Silence

This album isn't as good as my hopes were built up for, but it's still pretty good.
It feels as though Prefuse has decided to wander around explored territory, rather than go explore some more.
That could be why some sounds will be instantly recognisable, and that a sense of familiarity runs through this album.
There are even more collaborative songs on Silence than on the new Daedelus (see above,) and nineteen guests in total (not including the individual members of The Books.)
BUT it seems to me that some of the guests are made partly redundant by Prefuse cutting their contributions to well arranged shreds, as he does.
But who doesn't love a good vocal cut-up?
There are some excellent, standout tracks.
Here they are:
Hide Ya Face (feat. Ghostface and El-P)
Pagina Dos (feat. The Books) (my favorite track!)
We Got Our Own Way (feat. Kazu)
Rain Edit Interlude (this song is an edit of his beautiful 'Oh Linda, You Lit Up My Life With Your Voice And Made Me Fall In Love With You', which slightly better.)
All in all, this album felt a little too much like Extinguished, and not enough like Extinguisher.

You'd probably like some of The Books other stuff, I've all three of their albums, and enjoy it thoroughly. They use american folk instruments (banjos, acoustic guitars) and a lot of their songs are really peaceful and make me think of floating on a river. Their latest album (Lost and Safe) is a 10/10 for me. They do use samples from random obsucre TV shows and movies, however, they use them in a new way that's hard to explain. It's not your generic "The system. Is down (http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail45.html)." It adds to the feel and/or story of the song. From what I know about yer taste in music (Cats) you'd dig it.

Uhmm.. I can just get on SoulSeek, my s/n on there is Xianny.

But as far as specific tracks go, it's hard to choose, there are a lot of winners on the album. I'd say "It Never Changes to Stop" and "Vogt Dig for Kloppervok" are my favorites. That, and most the songs surrounding them. So hard to choose :(

Ah HA!
I like some of their songs!
I fell in love with 'Do The Whirlwind' when I first saw the video.
And then I heard 'Neverevereverdid' on my favorite two hours of radioing.
I was thinking I might want the new album.
We'll see...

Also, I got some of the new The Books songs, and they are very nice, like 'Vogt Dig For Kloppervok', and 'Venice'.
They are my favorites.

Now.
(Which is what I have said to draw loose attentions to this time in the post, which seems to be the same as every other time in the post.)

Boom Bip - Blue Eyed In The Red Room

Oh yes!
I really like this.
A bit more than his first album.
It's beautiful.
The songs, I don't get the feeling that they are cup of water, but instead they are rivers.
'Aplomb' is my favorite at the moment.

9/10

General Patton Vs The X-Ecutioners - Joint Special Operation Task Force

[Ctrl+V]
I quite like the General Patton album.
It certainly isn't as good as most of his other projects.
But it's fun, unless you're not in the mood, in which case I would assume that it would be very annoying.

It sounds like a hip-hop version of Amenaza Al Mundo.
It also sounds like listening to three radios on different stations, and switching the stations on each radio randomly, and Mike Patton just happens to be singing on almost every channel.

I'm glad I like it because I barely heard any of it before I bought it.
Then came the doubt about it.
Then happiness.

I guess I don't need to talk about this in the other thread now.
OR.
I will copy and paste it!
Yeah!

8/10

Autechre - Untilted

This album doesn't sound as complex as their last few.
BUT it is so cool!
I guess they've gotten as far as they want for now, and have decided to make their music more overtly enjoyable.
As much as Autechre music can be, that is.
This might very soon take second place as my favorite Autechre album.
Right after Confield.
Also, I love the album art even more in real life than just in pictures.

9.99/10

Jaga Jazzist - What We Must

This is really different from their first two albums.
They seem to have dropped most of the electronic sounds in favor of rock sounds.
But it is still very Jaga Jazzistish.
I prefer the first two albums though.
But that is not to say that this album is not good.
On the contrary.
It is good.

ALSO!
I got the limited edition album, which includes a bonus CD with four tracks (but only in the 'again' sense.)
Three demos and one "rough rough mix".
Lucky lucky!

8/10

Later on the show, I will discuss some of the new albums that I will be recieving in the mail, including:
Fantomas - Suspended Animation
Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Allat Született
Beck - Guero (Limited Edition)
Beck - Sea Change
Beck - Mutations
Ween - Quebec
Ween - Chocolate And Cheese
Ween - The Mollusk
Clouddead - Ten

I will also wait patiently for Four Tet to release his new album, 'Everything Ecstatic' on May 31st.

But for now I will leave you with this parting thought.
"Damn. I have to re-order 'Anti-Pop Consortium - Arrythmia'.
Oh well, at least I got a refund.
Maybe I'll also order that Matthew Shipp collaboration album.
I wish I could find a good deal on 'Shopping Carts Crashing'.
If only it wasn't a Japan exclusive release.
Hmm..."

'Til next time (now time remains.)

I enjoyed BoomBip's new album as well, though as I mentioned earlier in the thread I think, or perhaps somewhere else in the forum, I like his hiphop stuff more. But this is definately good.

And I'm glad you enjoy those Books songs. "It Never Changes To Stop" is another good track (if you've not already downloaded it.) In my opinion, at least. I like the deep, thick, violins in it, reminds me of Louisiana bayou music. But then again, I'm from the south, so it's probably in my genes.

I don't know what to think of the last records I got, they are weird.

the only thing that I know is that this Miles Davis "In a silent way" is absolutly amazing and a fucking great record.

to add something about your post, boggy, I must admit that I like this new autechre record a whole lot. it seems, just like you said, more 'straight forward' and less effed up than confiled and even draft but you still get those strange feelings and emotions during the lenght of the record. that music is creapy... my girlfriend doesn't understand a shit about this record... haha, what is sad is that I won't get to see the ae show that is pretty damn fucking soon in montréal, I would have killed to see that show but my parents won't give me the car to go there so I'll have to let it go. it makes me sad but I'll listen to the record more and more just to feel happy.

I'm thinking more and more about buying this fantomas record because it looks so great, I mean, I want to buy it only for the artwork that is really great.

oh yeah, I'm waiting for that new four tet record as well, have you see the new video ? there is a link somewhere... I saw that in some other forum... let me check...

Shame about having to miss the Autechre show Arbee.
(I have some trouble imagining a room full of people all listening to Autechre.
It doesn't seem to make sense. HeeHee!)
At least you can save the money from the ticket to buy your own car.
Or spend it on more albums, as I would undoubtedly do.

And
That video was really nice.
Shame my internet connection butchered the video quality.
I hope it might be on TV next week.
And if it is, I hope I remember to watch it.

Now things.

New albums have made me happy in a wierd way.

Beck - Sea Change

I wasn't so sure I'd like this album as I tend to mostly enjoy Beck's fun songs (which would seem obvious.)
But this album does everything perfectly.
I'm kinda sure that even people who don't like Beck would like this album (unless they specifically don't like this album, (which would seem obvious.))
Quite easily one of the most beautiful albums in existence.

11/10

Ween - The Mollusk

Ah Ween.
As usual, they create some of the most unusual songs I've ever heard.
And it sounds like they recorded this album on an old rickety boat.
Strange, humorous, interesting, really nice to listen to, etc.
I don't have a lot to say about this album.

8.5/10

Another thing.
I would like to issue an ammendment to some of my previous statements.
Occasionally I want to reply to this thread as soon as I can, and I don't leave myself enough time to properly listen to each of my new albums.
This can often lead to rushed misjudgments, short-sighted synopses, and generally thoughtless comments.
Looking back, this has happened quite a few times.
Twice (at least.)
Here are the revised reviews.

Jaga Jazzist - What We Must

It sounds like stars in the evening sky.
Every song is amazing.

10/10

Boom Bip - Blue Eyed In The Red Room

'Aplomb' sounds slightly Starcraftish.
To me.

9.5/10

I apologise for any inconvenience caused by there errors or judgment.
Sincerley,
Cats.

In closing, I will tell you that I've got new computer parts that actually work.
I'm so happy!
