This is only a small snippet of info but it leads to a potential launch date for Sonys next home console.
Sony also intends to mass produce the CELL chip for PlayStation 3 in the second half of 2005.

The processor that Sony is supposedly using for the PS3. You haven't heard of it yet?

I heard it was delayed until, like 2007 or 2008 (the Cell chip, that is).

Far too late for the PS3 if Sony wants a reasonable launch date.
Time to call Intel and order up an off the shelf Celeron.

My guess is they'll use an inferior model of their chip for the launch of PS3, then 2.5 years later they incorporate the finished chip into a PS3.5, giving them time to work on PS4.

Ha, a ps3.5 would make me laugh if they made on called that. The cell chip will be a very good chip. Although we have not herd much about the next nintendo or xbox, they may very well have their own type of chip as well. I think that this will be very interesting.

I also think that the ps3 will be no later then 2005 or they will not even get a chance in the market. 2007 or 2008 is way too long for sure.

Double posting isn't good .....just edit your last post.
Nintendo is still currently in contract with IBM so assuming another IBM copper chip will run the next Nintendo is a safe bet.
We heard of the GCs processor early because of the announced partnership between Big N and Big Blue (that's IBM for those that dont know).
