In this topic we will have updated Official Racing Brackets and varying types of Tournaments (such as No Items, 1 on 1, 4 Player Free For All, Team Challenge, 9 Lap Marathon, Specific Race Courses, and Specific Engine Speeds) This thread will be used to keep you updated on the brackets as well as communication between Racers. This thread is to be organized for Maximum Racing Pleasure...

A list of rules:


*If the Assigned Racer cannot COMMUNICATE with his opponent and decide on a date/time to race his opponent, it will be counted as a loss to keep the tournament Going. (Except Finals)
*Anyone disconnects during a race will be counted as a loss, no do-overs. (Except Finals)
*If the race has progressed far enough that you still know what the points were, the person with the highest points wins...except if the points are too close.
*Anyone who Cheats or Lies about an outcome will be suspended from 2 Tournaments.(Cheating during Finals results in 4)
*Racers should communicate through Chat, E-mail, and Personal Messages, they should not flood this Board with their discussion on when they are to Race.
*Anything goes in everyrace, except if the Tournament Rules say otherwise.
*If there are too many cheaters and liars, the Tournament will be canceled.
*Posing as another racer WILL GET YOU BANNED from several Tournaments.
*There can be only 1 Tournament going at a time in this thread, but there can still be an inifite number of challenge races.
*No discrimination on a Racer's gender, race, skill (except in the Race of Champions), religion, sexual preference, disability, time-served in the military, or which character they use.
*Tournaments will Officially start on the second weekend after Mario Kart is released.
*If a non-member wants to join, a member has to vouche for him and they have to form a seperate team, also the member has to have the non-member's contact information.
*There can be an unlimited number of team members in a team, but it is strongly recommended to just have four (4), you can always boot players from your team as well.
*The placement of Racers on a bracket should ALWAYS be random.
*On 2 vs 2 Team Tourneys the Maximum number of Racing Team Members is (4) four, creating 2 teams of (2) two players. Their placement on the bracket is random and therefore a Team may end up racing themselves, where the best of the team moves on.

I really like this idea but, when you say it starts the first weekend Mario Kart comes out, does that mean you MUST buy the game by this time? I have no problem getting the game when it first comes out, but I think the first weekend is too soon. I would feel comfortable getting use to the game first, and also to see if I am able to connect and go a few rounds on the Online Server.

Dead718: The Tournaments aren't mean't to take long, and basically when everyone has an assigned bracket, that bracket can move all the way up till the finals, but they have to play with the repective winners of the next bracket. I plan for theses tournaments to go on as long as possible (or until everyone becomes interested in another type of On-line DS game, like MP:hunters)
Before each tournament there will be a sign-up to see how many want to play, even if you get the game 2 months from release, sign-up for when you feel like competing...
You can form teams now if you want, they can be any size, but just make sure that the purpose of teams are for the 2vs2 races/battles...


Thecube_128: You used Yoshi and Green Koopa, I used Luigi (as captain) and the any other green character (preferably Green Koopa or Yoshi)...but yea...I didn't copy you, but if you want to join my elite squad of racers feel free to join...

The purpose of Racing Teams was meant for the 2 vs 2 racing Tournaments. If a team has more than 2 members they can swap them accordingly during the Tournament (say someone on the team is really good at the next map, he can swap with someone from his team who is bad at that map)

There will be two types of 2 vs 2 races, First Win and Points

First Win: First person to cross the finish line wins the match for his team.

Points: The point system will go:
First: 4 points
Second: 3 points
Third: 2 points
Fourth: 0 points

This combination is to discourage people from hanging back in 4th place and grabbing blue shells to ensure his teammate gets first...

I would say the less the better. If there are too many people then we all dont get alot of turns. Unless we get a person for each level and have them train on that and only that then pwn everyone on our respective levels. that however, would suck. I would say four... but our team has five...

What are the rules for people who arnt on Nnow? I was telling a friend about this and he wants to join in, but he isnt a member here... I dont really think he's a forum kinda guy, would i be able to be his spokes person? (If this were to happen, then if I left the Perfect Chaos team and evened it up it would work out i think...)

This non-member can join, but you have to be on the same team together, you have to make sure to keep in touch and alert people that you speak for him. Also keep his contact information handy (his e-mail, AIM, MSN Messenger...etc) You can have only one non-member per team, anyone else has to play under someone's name (plus it gets very confusing)

Ok! I just read an update on Mario Kart and they said that you can make an avatar that will be used in on-line play...

...because I don't want to be overly restrictive, Racing Teams can choose to have simlar Avatars, or not, it's their choice...You can have similar themed avatars (ex: different avatar's but with similar colors)

Also we have buddy lists, so some times, there might not be a need to contact people through AIM or e-mail...

The Clan perfect chaos will still be whole, but each team will compete against each other, and everyone else so that everyone gets a fair chance in the tourny. That is all.

Free-for-all: I'd personally approve a FFA, as long as there aren't any "team politics" where minions hold the others back so their leader could win.
Items: I don't think you can disable those, but I wouldn't like it without them anywho.
Course: random. It should always be random.

But it should be either 2v2 or FFA, no items, and random tracks except for the finals which should be 2 tracks chosen by the competitors. Then whoever has the best record will play their track first, like the world series.

In the Finals of a Team Tourney: The losing team have to +rep the members of the opposing team that they lose to, and in the comment for the +rep they must mention how much their team sucks and how the winning team is better...

Ok here's the thing....The OS has 5 players including me right, so to make it even.....I guess I will still be a member of the team, but I won't play nearly as many tournaments as the other players on my team. It would also be better for me because I have a really bad internet speed and I don't have WIFI. For me to be able to play, I would have to get dropped of at the nearest WIFI hotspot, or my friends house. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and I like to think of myself as good at it, but I just think it would be pretty hard for me to get to a spot to play all the time (plus I don't know how often the tourneys are going to be held) unless I figure out a way to do all this, im pretty much screwed for the time being. I will still be able to help the team when they need me, I can still be able to play a few tournaments.

THey do the friend code thing because people can change their names at will.

The way I see it:

-Every DS has a specific Code that never changes when on-line (ie your name can change but the code remains the same, like an IP address)

-I don't know if you can only select one friend from the list, but I'm guessing that the player with the strongest connection should host the game, and everyone should select the host's DS code from the list of friends.

I'm not going to let this Tourney die because some people are confused by the WiFi connection.

# Mario Kart DS does not allow for specific match-ups. Let's say I want to play my friend MrKori and only MrKori in a one-on-one race. The only way I can do that is if I make sure that he's the ONLY person on my Friend's List (meaning, I've physically deleted everyone else), and he's logged on and searching at the same time under the "Friends" search setting. You also can't force a two or three player race. The server will automatically give up and let two or three players race if it can't find a third or fourth player to match up, but players don't have the option to go ahead without the additional racers.

Maybe an upgrade to the WiFi connection will fix this... I bet it's not a technical limitation, I bet it has some root in a high-level theory that if two people choose to play each other there might be some damage done to minors. Nintendo is too crazy about that.

Well for one, I've been attending a lot of conferences. Another is I know most of the people from G4TV personally. I'm also a big E-mailer and messenger, and what I mean by that is; I constantly stay in touch with the representatives of Nintendo as well as Sony. Microsoft I tried but their too much of Azzholes if you catch my drift. Anyways the online system isn't very tweaked as of yet they really just rushed it out there so you can get your hands on it for the holiday season. Originally Mario Kart wasn't going to have online and was to be released shortly after the launch but they pulled it back to put online sevice on it. Another is Metroid Prime: First Hunt. Anyways choosing who you play should be an option by Spring, as well as forming groups and such. Supposedly from what I heared you will be able to demo games before they are released with the new online system; how are they planning on doing that I don't know but I think yor supposed to purchase an item which looks like a DS cartridge and insert it like you were playing a game and it brings up a list of new demos available to play, but we'll see.

I think it's very unlikely that if you and your tournament match both signed on and "searched" for an opponent from your friends lists at the same time, other friends would be searching as well. Just a guess, but it wouldn't cause TOO many problems.
