PS2 had the best games
Xbox did cool things with nice games thrown in
GameCube sucked.
I think that this gen was alright. Lot of classics now that I look 'back' on it.

I loved the PS2 and Dreamcast libraries.
Xbox less so.
Gamecube not so much.

Meh, I think Xbox was the clear winner. Sony sold far more units, but Xbox came in late and still managed to gather a gigantic fanbase for their next systems. My hat goes off to microsoft. They also broke some new ground in a few aspects. first, they had the built in HD. That is something that had never been seen before(on such a great scale) and will probably never be seen again. They also pretty much set the bar for online console gaming. Xbox live is by far the best online console service. All those online games at your fingertips for one price. Also, I LOVE the xbox controller. It's perfect, in my opinion.

The PS2 had one of the better libraries in gaming history, led by Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid. New dynasties like Jak, Ratchet, and Socom have set a solid base for the future.
Outside of the usual suspects, the GCN didn't make a major dent. Metroid, Zelda, and Resident Evil had the best games for the system.
The Xbox usually did the best with the ports, but when it came to exclusive titles the system was hit-and-miss. They did break into the industry and they should be commended for that, but can they continue the momentum?
The quality of games went up from the last generation, but the originality factor took a steep decline. I wonder if we can go up with both like we did during the SNES era.
It's not done...We've got another year left...
Xbox is turning out to have one of the shortest lifespans of any console...shouldnt have killed it so quickly, Microsoft. 4 years? Wait too small of a lifespan. May hurt them.

i think this was an alright gen. it wasn't as much 1 sided as it was between the ps1 and the n64. i don't think that it is time for next gen yet but hey who am i but another person on their computer. look at games like shadow of colousus or resident evil 4. the graphics are beautiful. i don't think that the consoles were pushed to their limits like the ps1 was. the only thing that going to next gen will improve IMO is graphics.
the xbox was my favorite. because of all the features besides gaming you could do with it. especially downloading my music (i use it to put me to sleep on those sleepless nights)
and the gamecube didn't really do anything in my opinion except take up Gamestop shelf space.

OMG MACH....I actually agree with you! No but really I think the current generation offered a lot of fun enjoyable content, and only hope the next generation will actually be able to improve on other aspects of the console(the multimedia features)

The gap between Master System and Genesis was only 3 years, and the Genny turned out very successful in North America.

Overall, out of the 2 generations that I've been a gamer for, the GC/PS2/XB one was the inferior. If you include those which I've never experienced in the present but have looked back at, it REALLY sucked. Even the best games of this generation I can't see ever becoming nearly as popular as some of the old games are 10 years from now.
PS2 - I think they sold way more than they should have, but they've done a pretty good job. They did a great job taking their system which is inferior to the other 2 in almost every way and escolate it to the popularity which earned it crazy good 3rd party support. Game most likely to be famous in 10 years - Katamari Damacy
Gamecube - The Gamecube itself was a very well-made console with a very good balence of various specs, all packaged up in a small, durable package. Nintendo may have published some extremely excellent games on it, but as far as third party support goes, they made some dumb choices. The color, the lack of advertisement, not making games to target idiot mainstreamers. I, personally love the thing but from a business standpoint they could've done much better. Game most likely to be famous in 10 years - Super Smash Bros. - Melee
Xbox - I don't think Microsoft should have entered the console race to begin with. The last thing the industry is another non-gaming company making consoles. Despite being a newcomer, Microsoft did an excellent job accumulating market share with their console. The power is impressive, as is their dumbass mainstream appeal. They also pretty much invented the online console as we know it. Game most likely to be famous in 10 years - Halo (sadly)
