I have a strict limit on my bandwidth in my dorm room... 1.5 GB/Week. I've been told that "8 hours of continuous Xbox or PS2 online play will put you over that limit." So how much bandwidth will Animal Crossing or Mario Kart use?
Thanks!

Wow, that is a really lame cap. How do you live?

Uhh...gaming online on a PC takes 20-30 MB's an hour. I'm not sure how the network traffic from an Xbox could be greater. I've actually gamed to lose bandwidth.

It is very, very lame. I don't really mind the dorms otherwise, but I'm planning to live elsewhere next year, and my main reason is so I can play my Revolution online.
20-30MB/hour seems awfully low for PC gaming. But hey, I don't really know. I guess it really varies from game to game. Even so, I think I'd have to play like 100 hours+ of DS online to break my limit, so I'm sure I'm safe.
I didn't know if anyone had any knowledge or authority on the matter.

Cant you just "steal" someone elses bandwidth?
(e.g. Sit outside someone else room and connect?)

Or just connect through the wall of your room.
Tehcube has a point.

Well, I go to Penn State University Park. The bandwidth limit is in place because like 7 years ago when everyone was downloading so much music, etc. it slowed down card access to the building (when you swipe your card to the building, it would timeout during peak usage times) or you couldn't charge anything to your student account.
It's annoying and they should just replace some of the hubs on campus with routers, to make this less of an issue, but it doesn't look like they are any time soon. I'm in the tiny minority... of people who have any care to use more than 1.5GB/week.
However... on stealing bandwidth wireless networks are illegal in the dorms for "security" issues. Pretty stupid. I have one, but I obscure the SSID and add WPA. I know that this isn't completely secure, but it's a start. There are others with wireless networks, but they at least have encryption on them.
On campus, all of our wireless networks (don't use up our bandwidth) but require a VPN to connect. I assume that DS isn't capable of using VPNs... :(
