According to this (http://nintendonow.e-mpire.com/index.php?categoryid=4&m_articles_articleid=3206) it is!
I don't even own a DS (I had been planning to buy one when MK came out), and recently thought waiting until I could get it as a gift (ala Christmas) would be a good idea. Now I'm so torn! I want to play MK:DS now (or in a few days when it's released)!
And, is there any possibility this game could be better than Super Mario Kart (minus online, which of course wasn't really possible back then)?
I'm so excited. I just need a DS now.
Also, I didn't see a topic on this. I hope there hasn't been one already.

Yeah, Mario Kart 64 was so much better than Super Mario Kart.
well, i haven't played SMK, but i'd say it looks way better than 64 and DD.

It's better than DD but definately not better than 64.

DD is fun, but not as fun as 64. The course were lackluster, and the battle modes were craptastic. I pretty much burst into joyful tears and happiness when i saw that block fort made it in, as well as pipe plaza (the only one i liked in double dash)
Too bad DK mountain didn't make it. Mushroom bridge did though, aswell as banchee boardwalk. Pwnage.

DD is one of the few older games of mine that i still play. The others include SSBM, TS2 (sorta), and maybe Pikmin2.
I was playing the GBA mario kart today and it wasnt all that great. The turning and handling was shit, i keep sliding off track and over turning into a wall thing. :(
And yes, MK64 was better than SMK. Hopefully MKDS will be the best. SHouldnt be too hard.

Well, I suppose it's a general consensus that MK64 was better than SMK. I've never heard that before! Guess I had my head in the sand.
And though I had a ton of fun with MK64, I always thought of SMK as "the best" because it was so innovative and also just because it felt "cleaner" to me. Not really sure how, I'd have to get out both games (which I don't have with me currently) and compare them.
I assume this is what this developer is thinking, so that is why he may view SMK as the "Kart to beat."
Either way, it looks like MKDS is going to be better than both SMK and MK64.

I've enjoyed all the Mario Kart games, including Double Dash!!. (NOTE: the double-exclaimation marks are there from the title, not from my own punctuation. ;-] ) While Mario Kart 64 may have been the most entertaining to play, we used to play the original Super Mario Kart to death. Sure, it was a lot more primitive than the later Mario Kart titles, but it was a blast to multiplay back in its day. I'm glad to see MKDS bringing courses from the original SMK back in full 3D.

I this MKDS will be the best of them all. I haven't touched it but when my friends aren't over and I want someone to play with what can any of those other MKs do?

Well Mario Kart DS includes race tracks from Super Mario Kart, MK64, Mario Kart Advance, and Mario Kart DD...
Then it'll have new courses of its own, single-kart play, On-line, on a portable handheld that is able to perform 3D graphics, has more characters, and new weapons...yea...this better be better than Super Mario Kart, Or I'll be pissed off at Nintendo...

If this is the best Mario Kart yet, I have a feeling this could be more of a system seller than we have talked about.

Ok people, let's get one thing straight, SMK was absolutely terrible. I recently got it off of eBay, and honestly, even for a Super Nintendo game I really don't see what people saw in it. I mean, it's somewhat fun and all for a little bit, but comparing it to the rest of the series, it sucks. It doesn't even have real drifting, the tracks are small and easily forgettable, and it's more frustrating than anything. Now MK 64 was amazing and I always thought it was better than DD, until recently after playing the hell out of Double Dash, I went back to play 64....then I realized that 64 was just amazing for it's time, but now it gets pretty old really fast and isn't quite as fun. It's still great, no doubt, but trust me, I think you guys would agree if you went back and played it (Grand Prix atleast). The battle mode in MK 64 was just incredible though. MK:DD had more modes and levels in battle, but the only stages that were any good were pipe plaza (my favorite, thank god they ported it), Luigi's Mansion, and Tilt-a-kart. And Super Circuit would be right around MK 64, in my opinion.
And now MK DS is going to absolutely dwarf them all. I can't wait!

Super Circuit can NOT be anywhere near 64. C'mon! The tracks were flat and boring (I did like Sky Garden, thank God they ported that), the AI is terrible, and they involved coins, which I think was a bad idea originally and it still is. SM64 is legendary, but the GBA just couldn't handle a good Mario Kart game at the time.

^ I get where you're coming from, but come on! MK 64 only has 16 courses, and if you go back and play it, they get old fast. MK:SC had a whopping 40! Including all those from SMK (which are alot better with SC's handling than the horrid handling of SMK). I know, I know, their were some great courses in 64, and since quality over quanity, 64 is better but IMO, not by much of a large margin. What does put it ahead is the battle mode in 64 (which IS another four courses so...) which was absolutely incredible. SC had multi-pak battle mode too, but I never got to experience it.
But I don't think there will be any debate about MK DS.

^ Are you serious? I still don't get why people hated Double Dash. I admit, I didn't think it was all that great at first, but then, not to long after I started playing it, I began enjoying it alot. Seriously, go back and play 64 for a little bit and (considering you've played it alot before) it will get boring pretty quick, except battle and honestly feels the same pace DD does. But even battle on 64 gets a little old. Double Dash had the got all mighty all cup tour. Grab some friends and play that baby, and I don't see how you can possibly say it aint better then MK 64.

well, you have to had experience it during that time. I look at the courses and remember them with fond memories... especially koopa beach. I havent played the game in like 8 years, and i still remember them. that was one of my favorite SNES games. MK 64 was better imo, just because of battle... and block fortress :).
Double Dash was good, but not nearly what it could have been. I was dissappointed with battle mode especially. The race courses were kinda lame, except for a few, and the way the items worked was stupid(and hopefully it is not as bad in MK:DS).
Anyways, I think the reason why DK mountain is not on DS is because perhaps the DS is not compatible for it. C'mon, you get shot off by a cannon.

^ First off, have you seen the new Air Fortress course based on SMB 3? That's got a cannon too....Anyways, DD's race courses kinda lame? Seriously go back and PLAY MK 64 and you'll see it's really not as legendary as you probably have pictured in your mind and the DD courses are honestly, funner for the most part.
About SMK, well see, that's a long story. I had just gotten this game around the time I got Super Metroid off Ebay too. I'm a HUGE Metroid fan, and have played every game in the series, except Super, which is ironic since it's known to be one of the best Metroid games and one of the best games ever. It's now tied with Prime for not only my favorite Metroid game, but my favorite game of all time, and I guess since Super Metroid felt SO much like a brand new game for present time, I was expecting SMK to still be fun experiencing it this late after it's come out. And true classics are almost always just about as fun now as they were back then. Wow, I can't imagine playing SM back when it was originally released and how amazed I woukd've been. But like I said, there are tons of other much better games on the SNES, and even though it came out in 92, I don't see how people thought it a great game then. It is no doubt good (not really at all compared to the others in the series) and I respect it for what it started, but it doesn't come close to crossing that line for a great title. Thank god Ninty kept the series alive though.

One of the new courses shoots you out of a cannon. I think partially its because of all the trees and stuff in that track. Maybe it was too much for the DS to handle and if they took out many of the trees it just wouldn't look right.

For FUCK's sake, I had JUST said that a couple posts back and had even JUST complained to someone else for not reading through the thread (in a different MK DS thread) so they won't double post information. Damnit, people, read.

Yeah, same thing here. I had been wondering what the Air Fortress was and how it was related to mario or whatnot, and when that guy Nate mentioned SMB 3 in the MK DS presentation video, I right there wanted to freakin make out with the computer screen. Then when he showed the course, I almost fainted. I don't think I've ever been this excited for a Mario title.

^ Yup. I doubt anyone who plays the games will disagree. It's strange because you'd think I'd like SMK for the challenge, since I'm that kind of a person, but I found it more of a frustrating challenge than a fun one. And yeah, I guess some of the levels are pretty memorable, and better than I previously said, but I still think the later Mario karts have much better, funner, and more memorable tracks.
Sorry, I actually did read the intire thread, but somehow managed to skip over that one part. Wont happen again.
*sigh*
It's alright this time I spose. It's just that people do this all the time and it is REALLY getting on my nerves. Considering it just happened to me 2 seconds ago, it naturally makes me angrier a second time. But I'm not meaning to take it out on you, it's just that crap like this happens so much from lazy morons who don't care to read, and just makes the thread filled with the same fucking things being said over and over. Now let me put the rest of this in LARGE text, so it won't go unnoticed. Idiots see a long post and immediately react "OMG, OMGz!! long post and me no read long posts! even tho its well thought out, well written, and takes a lot longer than writing a half assed three word post, I'll be an idiot and skip it anyways." This just results in, like I said earlier, the same damn things being said over and over. So all my posts are quality, or atleast I try to make them quality, or if their shorter they atleast have some point to them. Like if I'm joking around or something and not being serious or giving my opinion, but it's still quality. I also always try to check for grammar mistakes (that's why you'll see a lot of edits by me, just to correct grammar to make the post perfect) before I submit a post or see if there is anything else I would like to add to it. I never post just to raise my post count or some bullshit, so that's why it really pisses me off when people skip reading or responding to lengthy posts because their lazy. Internet forums weren't made to see "who can have the highest post count" (which is really who has the least of a life/ who has the most "way too much" free time), they were made for sharing opions and creating a good, top-quality community where people can enjoy talking with other members.

This has been a problem on nearly every forum I've participated in. It's a product of the Internet generation. Fast fast fast, everything now, no time to waste must have more (posts) let's go... you get the picture. That is my understanding why some forums have created this "rep point" system.
.... and, back on topic:
SMK may have been frustrating at times but I think I remember vividly every course from that game, whereas, I can barely remember any from MK64 or DD!!, even though I played both of those much more recently than SMK. It was just such a beautiful game. I'm humming the opening MK theme music as I type this.
Ohhhhh MKDS how I love thee, already.

EXACTLY the same thing happend to me. Mario Kart 64 was the best thing ever... in its day. I beat the cups so many times, beat the time trials over and over again... Then I get double dash. Recently I played Mario Kart 64 and it was boring. I didnt like the controls after the comfortable ones in DD, and I missed the characters in DD. The graphics also looked terrible in comparisson. (I know that isn't something I should consider, but it actually makes a difference. You Can't say that graphics DONT matter.)

If it's one thing I see back in every thought-out post you write, it's that you always have long-ass paragraphs with no interruptions.
