Just thought I'd tell you all that I am viewing the forums on my new Ubuntu Linux OS. I ruined my windows to the point that I could no longer even use it. I'm trying my luck with Linux now. I got a nice little partition dedicated to it and so far I think I might just whipe my whole windows partition and put the precious HD space into the hands of linux.
I'm really surprised at how easy it was. I have to hand it to the Ubuntu developers. It was pretty much idiot proof the whole way through. The only thing that caused me trouble was my Ethernet Card. But I lucked out and stumbled apon the solution when I was just randomly changing settings. Usualy when I do that in Windows, horrible things happen...

I recommend you keep a Microsoft OS available for MS Office apps. File conversions between Linux Office files to Microsoft Office files don't work well at all.

Maybe once you get used to it, you'd like to try Gentoo. It's much harder to set up, but Portage makes it worthwhile. Imagine being able to download a program's source files, compile so that it is optimized to your PC, and install it by just typing "emerge (NAME OF APP)" into a terminal. Way better than the RPM or DEB system, I think.
I actually used Kubuntu (Ubuntu using KDE instead of Gnome) though, and it was very nice. Perfect for someone who is new to Linux. My older sister uses it, and she likes it way better than Windows.
And Loomer, I've never had a problem with office files using either Koffice or Open Office. What files have you had problems with?

Yeah, I've never had any issues with OpenOffice opening MS Office files at all. Even my weird spreadsheet files. I haven't tired Access files though.

The files opened just fine, I just noticed a few annoying problems like incorrect huge-size fonts interpreted by MS Powerpoint. Or perhaps I was wrong to make such a conclusion based on my few experiences back while I was using RedHat 9. I still would not take an unnecessay risk with file conversions for important documents like schoolwork.
For everything else I use slackware :)

Mac OS 8.6 got it right in 1998. Ubuntu works perfectly too. Come on, Microsoft you're a paid OS manufacturer and 7 year old OS beats you and free OS beat you.

Windows XP sucks, horrah for Mac OS X and Linux! I primarily use Mac, but I plan on giving my younger bro my old PC, and install Ubuntu on it.

It can't connect or it forgets the key completely. In Mac OS X my connections are seemlessly remade. I'm already back on the internet and connected to my network before I can unlock my screen.
