Lupin III is getting star treatment coming to the Playstation 2 in Japan. Hopefully with the debut of the television series here in America last month, the game will find its way to American shores.

Lupin III is a thief who's very smart and agile and is always one step ahead of the police. The game is played very similar to the classic "Metal Gear Solid" game, modeled after the Japanese anime instead.

Just like in the TV series, when things get in a bind you can disguise yourself in various outfits and sneak right by the police. Keep an eye on your "nerve meter", after awhile you lose it and can't keep up your disguise.

Excellent news for fans of the show as well, because you can also play as any member of Lupin's gang. With Jigen (below) your main way of dealing with things is at long ranges via pistol/rifle. You can even access the sniper function this way.

As Goemon, you're able to slice through objects like crates, unpassable barriers, and even people.

The main area of gameplay here revolves around Lupin and his gang members stealing priceless artifacts from around the world, all while slipping by detection. Those thinking this title is simply a hack-and-slash title will be greatly mistaken... as any who's played a game like this knows, the co-operative character swap feature of the game gives some characters certain weakness that another character has to make up for. Imagine if you had to control a whole team of people in place of merely "going in gung-ho" like Solid Snake.

Notes for the casual anime fan:

Lupin III still has a greater fan track record in Japan than Dragon Ball Z. There were 228 Episodes, 8 Theatrical Films, 13 TV Movies, and merchandising that butts heads with today's Pokemon franchise.

Should be interesting.

You'll have to forgive it, it's modeled after a show that looks like this:

For god's sake the show was done in the 60's!

Aside from the red coat, Lupin can do the disguise dealio... I think that adds a certain depth that running around in three different cardboard boxes (MGS) can't compare to...

Oh, I didn't notice that. All I saw were the pretty pictures. So, I've got some time before it comes on. Hopefully I can stay awake.

That Looks Like Pure garbage, dont bet on that being a Metal Gear Killer.

Nothing will ever be a Metal Gear killer, especially not a Lupin III game...

MG >>> All other stealth-action games. Only Splinter Cell even comes close.

Obviously you've never played MGS2. Biggest disappointment on PS2 as I recall... that's why they're releasing Substance on it now (curiously, those commercials for the game still say "Only on X-Box")

Meh, I liked MGS2 a lot. I beat it like 20 times...I can't get enough of that gameplay for some reason...

I'll give this game a look, it looks like it could be pretty good, but IMO it won't top MGS or MGS2.

^^ It wasnt a dissapointment gameplay wise, and the game sold well enough to ensure a 3rd installment, What pissed people off was the Replacement of Raiden over Snake but Substance will more than make up for that. If anything i take it you havent played MGS2 if youre saying a game no one knows much about is going to beat it.

I played it... I met up with Raiden... I thought it was cool you could cartwheel down the staircases and break your ass... but that was it. All of a sudden it was like someone sent fuckin' Archie and Jughead to take out Solid Snake...

OK, bad use of the spoiler bar. That's something every gamer should know.

...and besides, how can you say this game can't beat or match MGS? It's not out yet... how often do you guys talk about stuff you haven't tried yet?

Myself, it was just hype... the show is good and I've seen videos of this game in motion.... I remember the first response to this thread was "Graphics look like poo". Smart.

Do you like Splinter Cell?

I liked Splinter Cell better then MGS2, but theyre both different if you want my opinion.

Yea, they are. SC relies more on stealth than MGS does.

Can't say I really care for Splinter Cell, it's beautiful and everything, but I didn't care for Hitman 2 either. I'd rather play DOOM or Serious Sam or TFC.

I LOVE SC, but it's really hard...I haven't had time to play it lately, I'll probably pick that son-bitch up this weekend.
