would you consider this racist:

Following the light-hearted ceremony, the two Microsoft execs got serious, issuing some stern comments about their company's competitors. "History tells us that no great empire lasts forever," said Moore. "In the case of the Sony PlayStation, obviously it has been a great empire. But when a superior culture comes along, typically, it means the end of that empire. We believe that the superior culture is the Xbox 360 games experience, particularly the Xbox Live experience, which will bring communities from around the world together through gaming."

a superior clultur has to PROVE itselfs superior!
If we were to merely believe the choice words of said cultural leaders, we might as well be considered a cult. I don't care if its what they believe.....THEY ARE BIASED. SO we will see what society thinks abotu this alleged superiority.

until then MS cna blow me

oh what BS man, he probably knows full well the wrath of the PS3 will obliterate 360 sales. MS may think there doin ok know, but when the consumer has the choice of the 360 and PS3, who really will go for the MS machine ?
End of an empire my ass, certain franchises like GTA, MGS, GT have been going for 8 plus years know, proggresively getting better and better. Will the public forgo the opportunity to play these first ?, - nope

Nah I don't consider this racist - it's social commentary afterall, not racial.

In fact I think in there lies the irony. Sony's consumer electronics bent I think is one that will more loudly resonate with the average consumer than Microsoft's PC-focused bent. XBox Live is a *great* synthesis of the two mind you, and truly an advantage. But I think the media extender capabilities will prove elusive to the average consumer, as it requires a bit of PC knowledge. Thus I think that capability of the 360 will go under-utilized.

But no I don't think this is racist at all, just the set-up for a match between two different visions of how digital entertainment should be handled.

For my part, I wish Sony the best.

Moore is using Nintendo's fan logic.

that logic they called 2nd generation curse. After winning 2 Generation straight, a company will fail. just like nintendo LOL

NES won, SNES won , N64 failed.

so using this logic: PS1 won, PS2 won, PS3 fails.

i cant stop laughing

I think Microsoft are just getting desperate and scared as HELL because a monster is coming for their asses. That monster is PS3 and they know it is going to kick their asses. Sorry, but it is true. Why act all puffed up and egoistical if you are so sure about what you are doing? They know they are not as sure as they want to put out. Fear drives people to say and do stupid things like moronic comments like the ones above and from the previous thread on the same subject. When a person gets scared they start talking out their ass. It is just like a school yard fight. Some kids who are not sure about their skills start yapping like little doggies. Yap yap yap. The kids who KNOW what ass kicking is all about say nothing, They just kick some ass. Microsoft has been yapping like a little doggie from day one with X-Box. Yap yap yap yap!!!! Like a little doggie. But Sony stays silent until the time is right. Sure they talk smack once in a great while, but yapping like Microsoft they do not. Nintendo is the same way. They too are confident in what they do. No YAPPING. Microsoft needs to put up or shut up. 360's launch has been a mess, now is the time to make good on what they have done and stuff their snarky comments in a hole. BTW, it is funny how these "Superior Culture" comments came right after Sony states that they fully intend to launch in Spring of 06. Funny, like getting you ass kicked is funny. I am no fanboy, but it is time for Microsoft to face reality as it kicks them in the face. That reality is PS3. Get used to it Billy Boy.....

Well, the most I can say about this is talk is cheap. That doesn't insinuate that the 360 or Microsoft will fail. However, I can bring up several articals from way back where I heard the samething, and the results turned up rather different. It's easier to say something than to be in that position and actually do it.

I'm weighing logic here, and I don't see Sony taking their time with Microsoft this round. There are many unexplained reasons for this. But, it seems some of the people at Microsoft are thinking otherwise, and I think that's a mistake.

he talks about empire then changes to culture. empire = sony. culture = america. its obvious that he considers america as the superior culture.

Cliffbo I see where you're coming from, but I really don't think he meant 'America' vs Japan when he refered to culture. I'm seeing it more like corporate culture, gaming culture, 'wired' culture... that sort of thing.

From the looks of things I expect Sony to outsell MS this gen (of course by now where near the margin of last gen). The statement itself isnt necessarily stupid, just very off point. But there is truth there, essentially yes no company/empire/civilization is to last forever. I think it all revolves around how MS feels that their console offers superior entertainment than Sony's and how they believe this will lead them to the highest sales in the future (many agree with this many do not).

If Sony had made a similar statement would we at this forum be scrutinizing it or would we be uplifting it?

I would have to agree with this XBD. But at the same time it is really a wonderful plus to the 360 and with a large amount of console owner also owning a pc I think it will reach many 360 owners (I use it and love it). The setup itself is very simple, but Im doubting that many of the consumers will actually utilize this feature in any way and many may not even know of it (at least at this time).

they're just smack talkin guys. That's all it is. It wasn't racist though. There have been all kinds of empires that fall, blah blah blah. What about microsofts stranglehold on consumer computer hardware? So they really can't talk shit about anyone's so called empire.

And they're not gonna topple sony this generation. Anyway they make such a big deal about live and how significant it is, when truth be told only a fraction of xbox gamers even have live. Not to undermind live's success and the quality of it, but it's not as saturated in the gaming community as they'd like you to think.

I don't think he was being racist. MS is just desperate to penetrate the Japanese market, and will say anything to make them look good. MS executives can say what ever they want, but we all know that the TRUE next generation gaming will start when the PS3 launches :smoke:

nice drawing ^^^ , Marketing men are just doing there jobs i guess, behind closed doors who knows what is going on. Allard and co are probably not too concerned if the 360 is overtaken by the PS3. Remember, what MS console was on the market at the turn of the century ? - there was none of course.
To have say 35-45 percent of the market in the next gen will be a nice little earner for MS and mr gates, what else can they say.....yeah ok guys, weve put out a xbox1.5, merely a polishing up of current gen games.....eeer inhale ....uuuum, .................:)

please don't lower anyones intellect by calling any PR anouncement 'racist'. seriously now...
look it up in the dictionary and see what it implies to.

now, for me, I don't like talk. I want action. I say X2 games. now I am waiting for PS3 playbles in Feb. -or even CES 24 days from now. these are just to cap it off. after that, X2 will only have Live going for it. again, I'll be waiting to see what online plan Sony has. if it is better, or even close, it's sold purely on the huge library and dev support. if not, then another question comes up; does Live have enough to go for with X2 games?

in any case, if you don't like yaping, why yap yourself? I firmly believe PS3 will take the lead again with no question. the dev support alone is enough to make it. do you even realize the huge difference between PS1/2 compared to all the rest? add to that PS3 will be the most powerful. add to that the free BD player. add to that the online service that willcombine PS2 and PSP along with PS3. add to that the little things like at least 7 players, 2 TVs using only one system and one game disk. and don't forget Eyetoy (a game for it and for voice recognition is already looking to be a launch title).

oh, and an empire needs to take serious hits before it falls. Sega had a bloody time before it shot itself. Ninty is going down hill with less revenues and console sales since SNES. MS took more losses than anything ever heard of in gaming history. all that while Sony has success that nobody could have hoped for.they are getting bigger, better and make a lot more splashes by the day in the gaming world.

Can we stop with these kind of threads? Seriously! It's like when PS3 news runs dry, these kinda topics emerge. It's a PR statement, no more no less, take it for what it is.

These type of threads, make PSiNext look bad, and make us no better than say team Xbox forums. Playstation gamers complain about xbox "fanboys", this sorta stuff isnt any better.
