can anybody remember way back when a company - i believe it was Immersion - sued sony for infringement of its patent over dual shock? well a thought struck me. sony will not want to carry on paying that company royalties so would have to come up with a different system. why has the new controler got extra long grips? i think i've sorted it!! the only other viable method for creating vibration would be soundwaves. imagine if imperceptable sound waves could be pulsed through the grip. this would open up new sensations available to the hand and myriad configurations. perhaps your joypad could create sounds that where audible if so required. light sabre etc.. oh yes. any other ideas for use?
imagine if in metal gear sold, snake picks up an insect. you feel it crawling on your hand! imagine if he touches water. you feel the ripples. yeeee!!!

Thats one of the reasonwhy Sony changed their controller for PS3.
I think PS3 controller will be close to Dual Shock 2, but using their own techniques/technology

Since when do wireless controllers have rumble features anyway?
Well microsoft paid royalities to immersion that's why theyre allowed to keep the rumble feature. Nintendo uses some weird idea for their rumble. Not sure how Sony has fixed their problem though.
the shape and look of the controller has nothing to do with the lawsuit. the patent was specifically towards the rumble mechanism only. obvously they will use another mechanism to make the pad rumble. it isn't exactly rocket science.
if you wonder why the controller 'seems' to be differet (is it really?) then you don't know Sony. they are always pushing the envelope in design. PSOne didn't last long before they added analog, rumbling and wided L2 & R2. DS2 had pressure sensitive buttons! it added new dimentions in controls, game mechanics and feel. now it is streamlined and natural to hold, wireless, rechargeable and uses bluetooth. it is oly logical.
(X2 games aren't rechargabel are they?)

Z, 360 controllers can be recharged, but you need to purchase a play and charge kit enabling this feature. It would be nice if this feature is built into the PS3 controllers. I'm getting tired of paying extra money for standard features like component cables and recharge packs for controllers it's starting to get out of hand...
so again, you have to pay extra where PS3 gives it to you for free?
PS3's pad has a mini USB port in the back. you connect it to PS3 where it will recharge and let you play simultaneously. after it is charged, you can simply disconnect it and go wireless. very convenient.

Plus if you miss the idea of split-screen matches with copious cables, you can just hook them ALL up and charge as you play.

cliffbo, I like your Snake idea of picking up an insect but imagine that on grand theft auto, feeling the blood drip down the chainsaw onto your hands after slaughtering millions of innocents with ps3 controller *drops controls, runs to police and turns self in* "I killed so many ppl! It was so real.... I know I did it" 0.0 I am joking and being extreme of course ^.^

Don't worry, you aren't the only one speculating what can happen many, many years from now.
