Dark Sector Gets a Publisher

The third person shooter is aiming for a Q3 2007 release.

December 13, 2005 - After wowing audiences at this year's E3 with a highly cinematic trailer, Digital Extremes' upcoming sci-fi game Dark Sector appeared to fall completely off of the face of the Earth. That silence ended today with the announcement that D3Publisher has signed on to publish Dark Sector with a targeted release date of the third quarter of 2007.

According to Yoji Takenaka, executive vice president and COO for D3P of America, the chance to "to work with the world renowned design team that James Schmalz has assembled at Digital Extremes is just too good to pass up...we are very proud to be working with them on Dark Sector."

Digital Extremes founder James Schmalz commented that "D3Publisher impressed us with their commitment to publishing high quality next-generation games that exceed gamers' expectations, which we certainly expect to do with Dark Sector."

The game is being touted as a "modern-day superhero saga" where the main character, Hayden Tenno, gains the ability to morph into different combat forms. The game is set in the "crumbling infrastructure of a fictional Soviet-bloc country in the near future...where bio-weapons are no longer science experiments, but a hellish nightmare let loose on an unsuspecting populace."

While the game's description seems to be quite a bit different than the sci-fi trailer we saw at E3, we are still intrigued by its premise and will be keeping a close eye on its development.

That's kool, but does it look better? It was alright, but not up to current PS3 level. It seemed like a very cool concept though. I am sure it will look great when it ships.

I'm glad they finally found a publisher, it took them a while.

I was expecting this game to be release well before late 2007, i guess now they've got plenty of time to make a great game.

The longer the better looking it will be. Not to mention gameplay mechanics. I hate it when pubs rush the devs to ship a game and it comes out crap. Such a waste of good millions.

I talked to one of the developers of Dark Sector awhile back in IRC, and he tell me he is not too happy with the animation and many other things. and they will improve on it in the future, as development goes forward.
