View Full Version : ***PSINext Archive, Stickies, and Mega-threads***

Ok, there are some fairly large changes coming.

In response to a lot of user feedback over the last month or so, as well as a general consensus that the mega-threads can be viewed by new members as intimidating - thus resulting in a lot of people missing out on some of the information posted in these threads - the mega-threads will be un-stickied and all topics members post on Cell, RSX, Graphics, etc... left open without merging and such. Now of course, obvious duplicate threads will still be closed/merged, but this should encourage more user participation and education as posters won't have to contend with the mega-threads as much.

Plus, obviously it will free up a lot of room as stickies are taken down.

Now, of course feel free to post and bump back up any one of the mega-threads any time you like - it'll be a slow transition for some people (including me) I'm sure, and when you just want to talk about certain topics in general, they make a great place to post.

Replacing all of that will be a sort of PSINext 'archive' that I will be putting up in a skeleton form shortly. In the archive, important threads/posts will be indexed and linked to, so that users may reference past important material and threads without resorting to the cumbersome search feature.

The archive will always be a work in progress, and member feedback is welcomed if anyone feels there's a certain thread or topic from back in the day that should be included. Not *everything* requested will be included though - just really important reference topics. Just go ahead and PM me or any of the other mods with inclusion suggestions and such.

It'll be up in rough form shortly - stay tuned.

I like this better.. instead of having to sticky all of the mega-threads just have one thread linking to them. I was getting a little concerned when I saw all these stickies on the first page. Great job keeping things neat xb!

xbdestroya ~ You read my mind man. The PSINext Archive is something I was thinking about for a while. One place to link past and future threads that are relevant to the PS3's developement. If you or your staff have time you should also have a spot in there for threads dealing with Rumors & such. They are also a big part of a consoles developement cycle. Good stuff............keep it up!!!

LOL, you deserve it Kaphwan. :smoke:

There were a lot of threads that were 'maybes,' but I had to keep a fairly strict criteria for the first version of the Archive. I'll flesh it out in the coming days, and see if I can hack some of the various sub-topics out of the Cell, Graphics, and RSX threads - since I know there's a *lot* of different presentations and interesting stuff rolled into those.

Anyway, again if there's any topic or news clip from back in the day that people feel should make it, feel free to PM me. I went all the way back through every thread topic to mid-2004 scanning. There were some really cool topics from back then I was thinking of putting in there, but a lot of them have since had their hypothesis proven/disproven with the information since ISSCC and E3.

Don't mean to brag but uhh... 2 of my threads are in there. :-P

But in all seriousness... I think this is VERY well done and you def included some awesome threads new and old.

For the record xb...Just to let you know how long I've been lurking before I actually signed up... I used to visit PS3 Insider DAILY. Don't want people thinking THE Handycrap is a noob.

Too many people bagging my appearance.

And anyway, is it possible to dissect a thread (like teh xbox-mega-thread) and make different topics for each of the subjects?

Well, not easily, but I'm going to try and do something like that for RSX, Cell, Graphics, etc when I have ample time (read: not today).

The 360 mega-thread wouldn't get carved up though as it was created in the first place with the express reasoning of keeping the majority of content PS3 focused.
