Sony Announces Official Briefing On PS3 At CES 2006

I've told you, in a previous article, that Sony was preparing something major for CES 2006, since it has bought a huge central space for its stand, probably something related to the company's next-gen console, the PS3.

Well, it looks like that really is the case, since now, according to gamemag.ru, Sony has officially declared that at CES, CEO Howard Stringer will present a report containing all the information regarding the console. It's not quite a launch, because we'll have to wait some more before it is available on the market, but at least we'll know for sure what to expect from it.

I can hardly wait to see what that’s all about, even if most technological details are already known. Perhaps they’ll give us some clues on the moment when the console will be officialy launched?

Well if it states that Howard Stringer will "present a report containing all the information regarding the console", then i expect the RSX will finally be unveiled and that all the functions and features will be detailed.

I actually doubt that article, I have to say. Gamemag.ru? No way they're privy to some sort of secret info, so it's probably just them making a guess. I expect some PS3 info at CES (god I hope), but I wouldn't get your hopes *too* high. I mean they really do seem like they are going to have a strong focus on consumer electronics, and they might not want to lose either message with too much PS3 info as well.

Well I guess it's safe to say that CES will indeed make me poop me pants. I wasn't expecting much (seeing as how the February show is a month after). Now with this said I'm led to beleive that we will know this...

Launch line up.

Any types of bundles and what will be in them.
Final design console and controller.
The desktop when you turn it on... I really wanna know more about this.

I smell BS reeking from that article... I highly doubt Sony will present too much info regarding the PS3 at CES; they're smart enough to leave the goodies until Feb. and keep consumer interest at its peak a month or two before release.

CES will be technical show for sony, not for games. they will save the game show for E3. no dount

CES is not a sgameshow, rather then technical show. PS3 final Specs may be revealed there along with Blu-Ray plan.

Thats what I was thinking... They release everything technical and all of it's features and everything that has to do with the console itself. Then when Feb roles around we will have a MASSIVE showing of all the games, and even more game announcements.

I'm hoping we get some sort of info is a new Twisted Metal is coming... I've missed that series and it's in desperate need of an update. Aswell as new SOCOM details, and some sort of announcement on Jak or Ratchet. Those are just a few I would LOVE to come onto the next-gen scene.

if you're talking about CES, then no. they will use the space for all new Sony products. BD, the new 1080p Cell TVs, PS3, etc. will all be featured.

think they're gonna release the demoes before E3, since it's a little close to the PS3 launch. I think that they're gonna launch it at the feburary event, since it seems perfect.

BTW, sony has a press conference about PS3, 1 day before CES opens.

no, the Sony CES site will open a day earlier and focus on Sony's CES presence. nothing specifically about PS3. it will be one of many electronics they will have for the show- obviously with more attention.

Details about the new consoles from Sony and Nintendo are sketchy at best. In fact, neither company has confirmed a firm release date for its respective console beyond a vague 2006 time frame. Nintendo won't even be showing up at CES, and Sony will likely focus on its consumer electronics products instead. Expect to see the PS3 and its Blu-ray compatibility widely touted, but don't look for playable game demos on the show floor. We're expecting nothing more than a product mockup under glass and maybe a looping video trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots. In all likelihood, any substantive information on either system won't be forthcoming until the E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) show in May.

I think cnet.com is confused or they would of mention the Febuary event before E3. It wouldn't make any sense to just have a demo unit. If you ask me thats nothing special, because we all know what the PS3 will look like and seen the demo of MGS4 (or any other demo at E3 and TGS). So that would be a waste of an event to me.

You never know though...the next big event is only a month after and we really don't know what Sony has in mind for PS3 at CES. Maybe they didn't plan on it being big. They only said that the PS3 will be at CES right? We can take that many ways. Well luckily the wait wont be much longer.

are you forgetting this is the 'new' Sony we will be seeing since the reform? they will be hitting hard on TV, HDTVs, Cell machines (PCs, Vaios, TVs, blades, servers, etc.) PS3, MP3, mobiles, etc. this is the world leading consumer electronics company taking advantage of the worlds biggest electronics show. in many ways, this is one of their major events. only things like cBit comes to mind next to CES.

and no matter what happens with PS3 specifically, Feb. will only be 30 days later, and it will be a PS3 bonanza! think of CES as the worming lap. :)

We can only hope, but I doubt the ps3 will be their main focus in CES. We will have to wait till feb. for that goodness...

Why buy such huge booth then? Well, the HD era is supposed to start next year, none can escape it. I believe the HD stuff, especially Blu-Ray and HD TVs will get the main focus among other products of Sony. Obviously Blu-Ray is connected to ps3 and they will most likely hype the ps3's support for it, wich is all good of course, but I wouldn't expect any ground breaking news about ps3 and its games just yet at this event.
