Im sure this has been done before but I would like to know if any of you know if this will be a possibility , particularly for FPS games. For the life of me I am never able to control the anologue sticks with the degree of finesse required.
Oh another thought just popped up , with the emergence of 1080 p (whenever it happens anyway ) will we perhaps see such support on monitors ?, i know one can buy 1920 by um ....1200 ish, but there pretty costly.Do you think the PS3's HD capability will have a knock on effect on Monitors supporting this res ?
I know one can connect a keyboard to a PS2 ( or at least i think ) but it would be nice if the PS3 really showed off this feature.

PS3 should easily be connectable to a PC monitor, with a small adaptor at worst.
PS3 will probably support all USB keyboard/mouse configurations, since otherwise they'd be surpassed by MS. USB interface ports should be no problem, and drivers are pretty much stadard for all keyboard and mouse types. In theory, PS3 can do something with connectivity that 360 can't, bluetooth keyboard/mouse/headset, etc.
Also, this all seems to be indicated by PS3 supporting OS's like LINUX, and perhaps others.

If FPS games developers want to enable their PS3 exclusive games or multiplatform ones to use mouse and keyboard, they simply will since there are 6 USB ports available. Consoles have been able to use keyboard and mouse since long ago, although most games don't need to support them. However, I've seen a good number of PS2 games with mouse+keyboard options and I remember a mouse for PS1 to play RTS games and adventure games like Broken Sword. Not sure about a keyboard for PS1 though.
Anyway, I've played a few FPS games on both PS1 and PS2 and the experience was good. Some people simply can't accept there are alternatives to mouse+keyboard and don't bother trying too hard or simply say that combo is superior to any controller before they've tried them, but I can play FPS games fine with either mouse+keyboard or a console controller, even though a controller allows me to do a few things quickly other than aiming and shooting thanks to button distribution.

I would do it. Sweet for Quake 4 and other FPS. It would be easy with bluetooth enabled in PS3.

Unreal tournament on ps2 used the Keyboard mouse config. so i cant see why Unreal 2007 wont.

First of all... edofall has the hottest avatar around. Second, the PS2 did of course support the keyboard and mouse and did use it for some games so I don't see any reason for this not to be used with the PS3. I too also prefer the mouse and keyboard over the dual analog sticks.

yah, but the games have to support it too. Imagine playing SOCOM in FP view with a keyboard/mouse set up? Sweet. :)

Personally I don't think it will work that well with SOCOM. That just one game I feel it will take away from the console feel. But other games (UT 2K7 and Killzone 3) I feel would be perfect for it... Mainly cause it's a primary FPS, unlike SOCOM which you can switch between.

Edofall I love your avatar O.O awsomeness! I would love keyboard and mouse support for 1. FPS games and 2. Strategy games might FINALLY make it to consoles agian, Command & Conquer still rocks! You HAVE to play Unreal 07 with a mouse and keyboard ^.^ It's unethical if you don't.

Based on the announcement Ken Kutaragi made at E3, the PS3 will support keyboards and mice. I guess that should have been pretty obvious since it supports USB ports - six of them from what Ken has mentioned at E3 and Kaz Hirai in his latest interview. I believe this will play a small role for various USB peripherals.
Also, Chatani announced at E3 that the PS3 will support panoramic view for two 1080p television sets. Later, Ken clarified that statement by saying one can use standard television sets and or monitors.
For other information, I believe the last thread (http://forums.e-mpire.com/showthread.php?p=875564#post875564) we had this discussion is pretty much where we are headed as far as connectivity.
the PS3 will support keyboards and mice
off topic here:
Mice is the plural of 'mouse' as in the animal.
Mouses is the plural of the PC mouse.
now you can shoot me...

I'd say alot of PS3 FPS/Strategy games will support Keyboard and mouse.
I't been known for a while that PS3 will allow games to be controlled with a k/m.
In answer to a later question from the audience Bain admitted that the wireless signal could be interfered with by another nearby PlayStation 3 console and in those instances where many consoles would be close by, such as at a LAN party, it would be necessary to default to using wired controllers via the console's USB ports. It was also mentioned that keyboards, mice and other devices could also be used as games controllers but that Sony would always insist that any game could also be controlled with the default controller.

We learned that despite having up to seven Bluetooth 2.0 compliant controllers, and six USB slots, and you will also be able to plug in a keyboard and a mouse. The company representative added that you will be able to play games such as Unreal Tournament 2007 with the keyboard and the mouse.

Just wanted to point out that mouses have been out for consoles as long a go as super nintendo. So im thinking that if super nintendo could support a mouse, the PS3 will allow you to hook up 10000000000 mouses at one time and have all your friends fighting over who to shoot.:buldge:

I honestly hope the mouse/keyboard combo is not used for gameplay. Sure it would be nice for some to have the option. But if you want to use a keyboard/mouse I suggest using your pc for gaming. Consoles are made for controllers. If you started to mix the two there would be a big disadvantage to some during online gaming.

Isn't that what everyone said about Halo 2? Most the pros at the tourny near here all used controllers from what I know. Depends on what your comfortable with really. I can't stand using a controller for fps shooters anymore and my girlfriend refuses to use a mouse and keyboard because it's too difficult for her and she hates the sensitivity.
I say if a mouse and keyboard has more utility then go with it, not my fault you want to make it difficult for yourself, but that's just how I game ^.^

There are a few online titles on the PS2 that support the keyboard and mouse and we haven't heard of this disadvantage. Don't ask me which game because I forgot. :D
It's going to be fine. :)

Man, i hope there is keyboard/mouse support for PS3 Killzone, i could never for the love to god use a controller confortably, but i understand your concern..however options are always good. Maybe they balance it out somehow. Also i cant afford to upgrade my PC, plus KillZone wont be out on the PC anytime soon..
I just wanna win online, so give me my mouse and keyboard anyday  lol..if your using a controller online beware!! im gonna gun for you..
When KillZone for the PS3 comes out, we all should get to together online for a match, it'll be awesome. We can arange a match by states.

You should adjust the mouse sensitively for her ; ), i usually have mines set to 2.4 in DOD. On the otherhand, a controller is way too responsive, and to make it worse the movement of the analog stick way too small, limited. with the mouse, you got a huge mouse pad to move your character/aim, etc around. Think of as viewing a movie on a 19 " LCD and a 12 " LCD, you can see a bigger picture on the 19 " one.
I declare: I can whoop any mouse/keyboard player with my trusty DS2!
may we face online with any PS3 FPS and I will prove it to anyone...LIVE on the HDIP camera!
let the bets begin! Muahahahah

I dont know Z,as much as i like the DS2...the mouse just has that accuracy edge when it comes to FPS.
Imagine how much easier Killzone would of been on the ps2 with a mouse

lol, many have said that...few have made that happen.:)
I too tried killzone with the DS but after i bought the smart frag thing,i started to enjoy the game much more.
yeah, yeah, mouse is faster, more acurate, blah blah blah.
why, I one shot the back left elbow of a fruit fly 70 yards behind my back looking through a mirror while dancing the Watcha Watcha upside down with one hand...eye folded!
HA! beat that you mouse lovin' geeks!
thanks to the PS3 camera, I'll have my own TV channel called 'Damn I Rule!' airing Monday to Friday from 3-6 PM central.

Heh yeah I admit the mouse sensitivity thing sounded bad ^.^ but in all honesty my mouse settings are up to max, in about an 1 inch movement I can move my pointer from one corner to the other at 1280x1024, that's Insanly sensitive when comparing to standard settings.
I don't blame my girlfriend for complaining but I still can't snipe properly with a controler because it's too sensitive. The last fps game I owned in with a controller was Perfect Dark, I always turned auto aim off because I was much better at free shooting, but now I play perfect dark with an emulator and use the mouse and keyboard settings, can somebody say "RAMPAGE" ^.^
Face PC players in Quake 3 with a controller and doubt you couldn't get a kill in against them.... That's what the extra sensativity is for, those ppl are insane o.o "when a man loves a woman" sorry talk about sensitivity >.>
