I remember the first day i got my PS2 many years ago i had prepared for that day buy buying a optical DTS system to acompany my now outdated first gen RCA HDTV capible of a at the time stagering 620i ( i later replaced it with a 1080i sony)
but as i hooked up the optical line to the 700w of dts goodness i was awww struck buy this deep ritch sound of a HEVEY serf. laping waves sent me into drool inducing stare i i began the preliminary setup.
personaly im hoping they keep that...
but im open minded i was also think of maybe the possiblity of a selection that can be chossen in "bios"
1. an orcristra tuning up?
2. a large jet engine starting ( you know that slow deep gutteral sound of a 120" turbofan spooling up than exploding to life) that would incinuate power!
3. just nature sounds as if your walking into a another world... another time
4. Gothic vocals faint and misterous
5. thunderstorm
what are your thoughts?
P.S. i need to think of something new to talk about im sick of hearing about mustach shader 4.0

In a few PS3 game trailers, at the very beginning, a "Playstation 3" logo with Spiderman font letters appears with a brief sound effect. I guess that could be a hint to what the screen will look like right after the disc starts to spin, very much like when a PS2 starts loading a game and a simple "Playstation 2" logo appears with another brief sound effect.
However, I am eager to see how the startup will be like.
And yes, I agree there's a desperate need of PS3 news. The good thing is that the day more details and games are revealed is going to be memorable.

Jax great thread concept.
I haven't thought about the PS2 boot-up much before, but I guess when I think about it, PS2's really is kind of impressive acoustically. I wonder how I felt that first time all those years ago... no idea.

Very good thread, very original. I have no idea at all. I would love to here everyones idea's on the boot up sound. i like the PS2 boot up sound. Best one out of any computer/console. Game Cubes is kind of annoying to me. X-Box's is all right. I do wonder what they will put in for PS3.
Xbox360 has a nice boot-up. It'll probably be on the lines of the PSP's start up with a swirve of colors and a nice "Twung" sound or so. Yea the PSone's startup was awesome, I missed it so much, with the chimes and all.

The 360 boot up is pretty good & the PS3 sound used for the demos is decent.
I agree with Crum the PSOne had the best boot up sequence.
I currently have no ideas for the PS3 boot sequence when I think of one I will be back! Peace

Man guys, this is realllly reaching for something to talk about.
I mean...wow. The boot up noise? I'm sorry yo, I want ps3 news as bad as the next guy but...crap, man.
I dunno what it'll be, I don't really care. I know it'll be cool though. I don't know if it's worth starting a thread for it.

Reuse the PSX sound.
first a voice, the same as the psx one says ps3, in that strange voice.
Then comes the sound at the ps logo, wich has been updated and made more 3d-like, and the sound is high-def + surround.
the nostalgia would bring forth tears in my eyes!!!

the nestolgia. I tell you, it is carved in my brain :)
what I am really excited about is to see the new logo. PSOne and PS2 were unique. PSP is a PS2 copy. I want to see PS3's logo! there is a spot ready to get spryed with it in my car, shirt, forhead, EYE, etc.
Game Cubes is kind of annoying
extremely. I borrowed a CUbe for a week or two, and I gotta say, I feel sorry for Cube owners having to listen to that every day. extremely annoying. *shakes head*

I'm afraid that PLAYSTATION3, in spiderman 2 script is the logo...

I understand if they use Spiderman style, cause it looks futuristic.
But they need to be original.. Saturn, PS1, N64 really has original logo. actually all consoles before current gen (Xbox, GC, PS2) uses original ideas for their logos.
I want them to use PS1 logo again, it kick ass. as well as sounds.. cause ps1 bootups sound is really japanese style, like Samurai or bamboo village

The ps1/x logo, is now the ps familly logo. it's on everything playstation, and also on ps3(right under the disc drive).

nope. PLAYSTATION is the name, not the logo. PSOne had the P with the S in the back as its shadow. PS2 had the futuristic PS2 characters. PSP had the same, only white ones. I want to see what PS3 has.

psx and ps2 had the logos printed on the side, psp on the front. that's why i assume this.

I remember seeing a article about it and seeing the alternative PS logo. I love the final PS logo, its awesome. Kudos to Sony design team :D
the "PlayStation3" fonts at first annoyed me, but now its kinda grown on me..and i happen to really like it now. I think as a company they have to re-define themselve, in this case its the logo...and probably a new modern boot up sound.
PS the GC bootup sound was..annoying and still is(yes i own a GC).

This is a topic many (included myself) have thought about for many years now.
I have always wanted to hear something real, musical, empowering, orchestral. Maybe it's because of the industry I'm in, I don't know. But I think that it would be great...
HERE IT IS (official verdict):
We will have a simple sound much like the PS2, but cannot be duplicated. Similar to the sound effects found in Star Wars, we have all come to know (something to identify with).
Although this is the obvious answer, the only other thing I can see happening would be something more personalised after the initial sound...an intro of your choice loaded onto/pre-loaded onto the system.
Simple as that

Guys , the perfect song
http://www.moviesounds.com/2001.html
Download the very first MP3 - from 2001 .......anything more perfect,
i think its called Also sprach Zarathustra .....
Heres an idea for a PS3 ad, a chimp playing a 360 - you know the trained ones from the tetley ads ( uk ppl will know :) ) another chimp is shown in front of a PS3, that chimp goes on to do the famous stick throwing scene from 2001, showing the PS3 as the true gen machine imparting knowledge ( like the 2001 monololith - all too Also sprach Zarathustra :) - bit of a rip off maybe ?

Lets hope you can customize PS3 OS. like changing backgrounds, boot-up sound etc etc

I think, you sho9uld be able to theme your psp so to speek, each with a different boot sound, background for the os... colours and what not
mp3 bootsounds would be cool
Aside from that i think that a fwoom, or fwoosh would sound okay
but maybe a guitar riff

I never really thought of this yet, I really wonder what the PS3 startup sound will be like, hopefully something cool... and the PSone sound was definately the best... I even have an MP3 of it so I can listen to it anytime I want :D
here is something funny; long story short: when I first got my hands on PS2, I had nothing for it. completely nothing. so for about a day, I had only the start up and the settings to play with. you wouldn't believe how long I spent on those.
I have to say, PSOne's startup sound was the best there is. PS2's start up style and graphics were the best. I especially love how the continue when you play with the settings.

When I first heard the PS2 bootup sound, I was taken away by the overbearing sound. I knew I had the next generation of PlayStation, then and there.
Let's hope the PS3 sound evokes a similar response.
I wonder if the final SDKs will have the same boot up as PS3 consoles. if so, I am sure someone will record it and upload it on the net. there was the PSPs boot up sound in an audio file on the net before PSP launched.

I've yet to see PS3 SDK boot up, but... PS1/2/P SDKs all boot up in a similar fashion. No sound, nothing moving, no graphics... Just a screen of text showing network information, and various other stats about the state of the machine.
Although the PSP also offered booting into the standard OS mode for testing purposes.

I think that settles it then...
"You have no chance to survive make your time."
I think it will start with some sorts of a figure in the center of the screen and all these pieces of a web, like cables in a network, start to grow from it and it just goes faster and faster while zooming out. While this is happening you'll hear a swooshing and various dinging sounds, very vagues sounds.
Just a guess ( ;) )...

The start-up sound will probably be cool, but with all the technology in the system I'm sure it will be very easy to customize your own sound for the boot-up. That's the funny thing about Sony, they are obviously very talented people, but little things like this, they seem to overlook or feel its unimportant. Why didn't PSP come with an automatic music converter for your games' soundtracks? Something as little as this can really put a smile on consumers' faces. Think about it, everyone's PS3 would be different this way. Forget faceplates, my PS3 starts up different than yours!
I know! no boot up at all! when you turn it on WAM! the game is already running! now htat's progress.
Let's talk about boot up animation instead. PSone had the famous logo, PS2 had spinning balls of light, and PSP had a swirl of as many colors that the PSP could display. So what could PS3 possibly represent. Maybe a motif of 3 or 7, 3 for PS3 and 7 for the 7 SPE on the cell processor.
PSP has two: one for the main boot up, and the other when you select a UMD game.
