Unfounded manufacturing costs. We're talking about financial analysts here, not hardware gurus. There is no way one can determine the cost without Sony spilling the beans.
I expect PS3's cost to be around the PS2 level if not lower.

I don't get it, isn't Spong quoting ancient stuff here? That Merrill estimate came out months ago didn't it? I think it's just Spong bottom-feeding to create news...

I mean that Spong article seriously sounds like it's based on this:
Link (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/28/news_6128295.html)
And that's from June. Unless of course the Toyo Keizai decided to run the same story six months later... in which case that wouldn't make it any more relevent anyway (and frankly I think it's just Spong).
Also I doubt Kutaragi directly refuted this as well, probably that's just Spong grabbing from many of his various comments about how customers will be willing to pay for it, get another job, etc etc...

Screw analysts. They suck. Never listen to them. They just take incomplete information and make a judgment about what they THINK will be in any given market. Just like we do here, but they get paid for it. Lame lame lame.
Glad to hear KK refuting that crap though. I imagine Sony is on it's way again to do another PS miracle. 100 million units? I think so.

Since when is an anal-yst right? What happened to the ps2 retailing for 550$us or the psp going for 499$us?
...and besides sinse when has kutaragi been wrong, he said he was going to kill nintendo (i think i accually saw a movie of that), and he obvioulsy did so in a period when consumers thought that ninty was unstoppable. He said that he was going to kill microsoft (which i darnn well hope he does). and look how successful the psp has been, entering into a market cuddled by ninty since...well...ever.
And even if they did loose $1 bn, that would be like kutaragi's weekly salary, Sony has made countless billions on the playstation brand and its games and there is a snowballs chance in hell of it stoppin' now

i think we will see a record......500 million consoles to market in less than 20 years
I am talking about global sales of everyplaystation console
That means they have about 8 years to sell roughly 300 million consoles.
PS3 could sell at least a hundred mil and PSP + PSP2 could put them over the top, but who knows, this is just a wild guess

Ach,please don't post stuff from spong, their credibility is about as good as theinquirer. This article is a composite piece made from several old articles trying to pass off as new.
