Anyway, I hated Nirvana and Kurt Cobain with a passion. Their Music stylings set us back a good 5 years of progress and now we have alot of shit stuff influenced by them. People that want to play like Nirvana but are even worse than them so the end result is on par with the decaptation of babies.

I did a year-long study of Kurt Cobain a few years ago for a hefty school project. I've found that almost every teen involved in music goes through Nirvana sometime in their early music career--and it leads them to a lot of other music.

Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, and Krist Novoselic can be credited for:
-The rise of grunge from the underground counterculture of the early nineties to an overground scene.
-Involving themselves in a massive diversion of music, allowing bands such as the Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, and even Sonic Youth to become increasingly popular.

They are musical pioneers from starting out as a simple depressed, fucked up soul's simple chords and angsty appeal.

Kurt Cobain sucks. He is an asshole. I'm sure if I were to ever meet him in real life, I would not like him. He didn't enjoy his fans openly, but rather brought himself up on the fact when he was alone. He was a depressed asshole and deserves not even close to how much credit he gets today. He pioneered a genre, a change, a revolution, but with his end, people took over. Nirvana never changed in their short history--it was just album after album of the same thing. Unlike other musical pioneers (Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles), they would start out with what people liked of the time and then would slowly change it.

Nirvana was not a band long enough to change it. Although Kurt stated in interviews before his death that he was looking forward to grow and change, because his albums had been the same thing, he did not live long enough to fullfill this goal. As a man, he was smart. As a musician, he was smart. As a revolutionist, he was half-assed. As "awesome," he was overrated. He left the pioneering to whomever decided to take it over. Today, bands that feel they have been influenced by Nirvana include the shit we see on MTV that call themselves punk even though they have never known a punk scene, and if they have, they are too caught up in selling out and touring with Christian bands and MTV appearances that they don't realize how full of shit they really have become (I.E. Good Charlotte, Green Day).

I love Nirvana, I have a couple of there albums. Smells like Teen Spirit was a great song, it really hit with millions of people and I may sound ignorant but I think Cobain was a genious. I would have loved to hear what they could have had out by now if he hadn't have died. RIP you crazy depressed druggie.

Smells like teen spirt is an overrated song IMO. Maybe i've listened to it a little too much though. It sounded like the start of rape me aswel which pissed me off for a while.
