I know the announcement of Apple going to Intel is rather old but one little issue I have yet to be awnsered is what this means for the rest of the PC industry. Like for example are you going to be able to go to the store and pick up an OSX box and install it on any PC machine? ..and if so will this put OSX in direct competition with Windows for the first time?

I believe the only way you are going to get the new OSX for Intel chips is to purchase the whole computer system itself.
I at first thought i would be able to buy just the cd or dvd but Apple looks like it won't be doing that as of yet.

Yeah, you're right. As far as I know you won't be able to run a Mac OS on a normal PC. However, you may be able to run Windows on a Mac.

Expect a cracked version for almost any generic PC. Don't expect support though.
I'm sticking to buying my machines from Apple. iLife is worth it after using it so much.
I couldn't imagine using OSX on anything else than a mac...

Steve Jobs has said that he has no plans of making a PC version of any Mac OS, and I don't see that changing anytime soon if at all. Right now they do have a PC hacked version but It suffers from immanent kernel panics, so it it sucks. Bad. But I just hacked my PowerBook to run Front Row, which is kick ass.
How did you do that Moses?

How did you do that Moses?I hacked my iMac G5 Rev. B too. I just a need a remote! I've heard of people running Front Row on G3's.

The video is a little sluggish but I think it's due to my DSL. I believe Front Row users also get streaming preference for trailers.
Thanks Eidorian. Are there not any third party remotes on the market that can be used?

Thanks Eidorian. Are there not any third party remotes on the market that can be used?Well, I did make mention of it to Moses but he wasn't very interested. Since it uses your keyboard commands it shouldn't be that hard. Most mice and remotes come with software that lets you map keyboard commands to certain buttons.
I'd just map my remote to do a Command + Esc keyboard command and Front Row should just scale in the same way it does if you're just using the keyboard. Then again I have the Apple Bluetooth keyboard. :-)
Because my iBook has Bluetooth, wouldn't I be able to use a bluetooth remote or something? If there is such a thing. *Does a wee bit of research*
Again, thanks. Frontrow is looking great!

Again, thanks. Frontrow is looking great!Yeah just find a remote that lets you map keyboard commands to its buttons. Then again wait until MWSF next week. Apple might just release Front Row to the masses. If not I might go to Fry's and see what they have. I know they have at least 3-5 remotes. I'm not sure about Bluetooth though.
Apple is working on a Bluetooth version of their "Apple Remote Control", which is likely to debut with iLife '06 in January.
I've heard that you can use a Bluetooth enabled phone. That means I should be able to use my V3, yeah?

Yeah, or just Google it. VersionTracker Mac OS X has some free ones.

The only thing I can see about this is that Mac will finally be able to have more software.

Right now I'm most interested in Rosetta...cause I don't wanna re-buy my Adobe CS or Final Cut...meh MS Office can go suck itself...so that wouldn't be a loss...

Office is the worst Mac application I have ever run. Yeah Front Row is cool, but useless. A remote would be good but since I have a 'Book, it is one big remote. I really doubt they add Front Row, but never say never. If they do add it, I also see them adding PhotoBooth, but it is really useless. My prediction for MWSF:
iLife '06 (updates nothing new)
New Shuffle 1GB (duh!)
First Mactel line (iBooks or new incarnation of iBook)
One last Mac mini update (or Mactel minis)
New .Mac content? (ehh, probably not...)
What is not going to be there but I just thought of it and it would sell:
AirPort Extreme with built in Cable/DSL modem. (makes great sense possible name: POMG AirPort Extreme 2 THE MACS!)

Yeah I know it's an MS program but they did a much better job on the GUI than the Windows version. I'd rather use the Mac version over the Windows one anyday. If Apple comes out with a decent version of iWork 06, I'll look into it. I honestly just need a spreadsheet, presentation, and a word processin application.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jobs pulls a fast one and brings out an Intel line early. Pro's might complain that it's the Mac Mini or iBook but I'd rather have some consumers deal with the lack of software or using Rosetta than the pros complaining about the lack of Intel ready software.
I wouldn't complain much if MS Office 2004 or Quicken PowerPC ran slowly through Rosetta. But Photoshop and all the pro apps? You'll get hell from the professionals.
