I was reading this review from someone on yahoo:

I'm sorry guys, but no matter how good the acting was (and I must admit it was pretty good) this movie was sickening...Hollywood officially sickens me. What kind of movie gets good reviews that promotes lying to your spouse, cheating on them, disappointing your CHILDREN, and so many more bad morals...no matter how good the acting was and how beautiful the scenery was, this movie has terrible morals...I am so disappointed in Hollywood

Is that true? It sounds like the movie is trying to convey other moral issues in the world distastefully.

yahoo news sucks, it has nothing to do with that, there have been millions of other films where people kill each other, are racist, sexist and show children getting abused then a gay film comes along and people try to find something to criticize it without being directly negative towards the real meaning of the film

its a film about cowboys hiding their relationship...sure you could bring in moral issues but in what film couldn't you bring moral issues into it?

You could say the same thing about Indecent Proposal (Which I hated) and the Horse Whisperer (Which i hated MORE)

I completely agree. Although there are some moral issues, that's part of the dilemma in the relationship between the two men. The film isn't glorifying the choices the men make, it's simply portraying two individuals who love each other, and they made some dishonest decisions. There are countless films that have the characters doing wrong things, but this film is getting criticized because two men happen to fall in love. I don't even believe the men are gay, they're either bisexual, or they're mostly straight, but they happened to fall for each other.

I'm interested in seeing this movie when it comes out near me on Friday. I doubt it will be an exploitation flick and people who convey it as this are being deliberately obtuse. This is a character piece and it explores the relationships between two characters from, what I am gathering from ppl I know who have seen it, in a deep and profound way. Not like most of the shit that Hollywood dribbles out on us year after year.

As I understand it involves vigorous butt sex and assless chaps.

Gay romance is an almost non-existant, niche genre. I have no interest in seeing these two go at it regardless of acting ability.

I can't wait to see it. Its supposed to be phenomonal. Still hasn't come here unfortunately. And no, its about two people who fall in love. People cheat on spouses all the time. Did you see Unfaithful getting this crap? NO. But because they're gay, it gets crap. Blah, I hate bigots.

I know a lot people pissed off it didn't have a single scene it it with pudding.

Jokes aside, there are thousands of great romance movies out there but one between two guys simply doesn't grasp my straw, you know?

It obviously recieved its press, hype and coverage because they are gay. You remove that and it's just Gone Horse Whisperer Scarlet Wind Letter 16.

I know I won't see it until it comes on video, but I will probably end up seeing it.

Oh yes, it has gay people in it, therefore it must only be considered good because of that. It can't possibly be because of fantastic performances, a great script, great directing and it just all around being a phenomonal movie.

It has some of the best reviews of the year from respected critics who found it to be a phenomonal film. Live with it.

Not saying it isn't good based on its merits simply that I doubt it would be achieving some of its accolades were it not for the boundary crossing thematics.

See it, then make that judgement. I've heard that it's just fantastic. Sure, pioneering does help, but many movies have gotten accolades for that. Being the first to do something always helps. Doesn't mean it isn't just as deserving.

Its probably going to win the best picture academy award. Its already won 90% of the precursors and its up for the SAG, DGAs, Golden Globes, everything. I bet regardless it'd still be nominated.
