Saw this and wanted to share.....looks like Chevy did to the camaro, what Ford did to the mustang
The Camaro Concept features the latest generation of GM’s legendary small-block V-8. The 6.0-liter LS2 engine features an aluminum block and heads for light weight, and Active Fuel Management™, which shuts off four cylinders to save fuel when the engine is lightly loaded. This concept version of the LS2 is rated at 400 horsepower, yet it could also deliver more than 30 mpg at highway speeds.

Chevy is really doing a much better job lately with regards to power, styling and fuel consumption in their sports cars.
From the top, it looks too much like the Mustang. They should take more design cues from the classic models.

Heh. I was also just looking at the coverage of the Detroit Auto Show and saw the photos of this. It's also not just Chevy. Dodge is also bringing back the Challenger, and it's echoing the old lines of the 70's Challenger designs probably even more so than the new Mustang is echoing the old Shelbys.
You can see a lot more at autos.msn.com ... or more specifically their NAIAS page (http://autoshow.msn.com/as/default.aspx?shw=autoshow2006&src=AutoShow2006LeftNav).

Yeah, I frequent a site that does good at showing the concepts and I've been following that challenger redesign for a while.
The one that almost made me cry? The new GTO. Why Pontiac, why?

With the GTO, I just get the impression that it was rushed or something. They weren't even *trying*. All they did was take a design that they were already producing and put a chunkier drivetrain into it and said "Here you go! A rear drive muscle car that lives up to the GTO name! Seriously!"
Viper
01-10-2006, 01:33 AM
Yep. To me, it just has nothing in common with the classic besides its badging of GTO. Pontiac had a really good opportunity there with the whole classic revitalized movement to make something great again but failed hard.
Even the Vette goes back to the past by reintroducing the 427 on the Z06 models.
I wasn't a fan of 1990's Camaro's but this one has my attention much more.

Whatever happened to the Bel Air? I thought they were going to replace the camaro with that? It surprises me that GM will bring back the camaro. I heard some where that they may bring back the chevelle. I would rather have a chevelle than a camaro. 454 Chevelle :Carrot:

Tis not bad, but it is true there bringing back the old classics. Sucks really.
The stang is super nice, but the new one lacks in something that makes it special like the old one.
But still, i'll always have a Shelby GT500, thats would always be my choice of car.

The car wasn't rushed, considering its an amazing car at an amazing price, the only thing that GM fucked up on it was giving it the GTO name, which was synonumous (Yeah yea i cant spell) with, a lot more then this but, style, and the new one has a grand total of zero. Also, the fact that dealers were marking them up didn't help the situation at all. And besides, with the Camaro and Firebrid out of production GM needed something fast and hell, why not just use the amazing Holden that you got kicking ass in the land down under? Good idea, lets call it the GTO. Thats the bad idea.

That's what I mean though. Calling it a GTO wasn't an afterthought because they wanted to bring the Monaro to the US. GM was planning a born-again GTO for a number of years, and for all the hype, we got an ordinary car with extra power.
By comparison, the new Mustang is actually new. The new Charger is actually new. The new Camaro is actually new.

I think they did a TERRIFIC job on the front end, but honestly they rear-end looks a little like the old camaros
Viper
01-10-2006, 09:54 PM
Actually that rear end is still pretty close to the originals. Now if they added that little flip spoiler at the end like this:

yeah....I guess they are pretty similar anyhow:

But definatley a spoiler would "make" the car

I'd be too afraid they'd screw it up. This one may be best off left to its untarnished record of bad assedness.

The Pontiac GTO is an Australian Car called the Holden Monaro. It just has a different Front body clip on the bumper.
The reason That Chev disbandened the Bel air was because it was a Family Car and the Chevy Sedan seems to do alright on its own without a slightly upgraded version.
I like the look of the new Camaro but the Challenger looks like shit.
Also I'll try and get pictures of the Shelby in the Workshop at the moment. It looks amazing but the work under the paint (Bog) and the work underneath the car, Brake/fuel line et cetera are completley shit and have to be re-done.

That Challenger is not bad but I really prefer the Camaro. Its got that futuristic look to it that I like alot.
Viper

It's the Pontiac GTUh Oh. Makes me think Chevy Cavalier on 'roids.

It's the hideous GTO remake we mentioned further up the thread.
Jesus
01-11-2006, 06:16 AM
On Closer inepection it is.
However when that is released in Australia it is 100 mm off the ground has bigger rims and a fierce front end/grill on it.
It's the hideous GTO remake we mentioned further up the thread.
I still don't understand why people don't like it so much. I mean great interior, RWD, 400 hp, 6 spd, its got all of the right ingredients (wow, spelling im sure), sure it has almost no style which is the only thing that people are pissed off about really. Oh well, different people different opinions i guess, but for 33K i would buy it.
Coded-Dude
01-11-2006, 06:33 PM
Well, the 86 Buick Regal Grand National a.k.a "The Corvette Killer" had all the right ingredients, but that doens't mean it was a pretty car. In fact it was pretty ugly if you ask me!
Viper
01-11-2006, 06:35 PM
Basically, that's it. Style. You put a dress on Bruce Campbell and he's no longer the bad ass you now him as.
I actually like the look of the original Grand Nationals. That's another car they just completely f'ed over.

01-11-2006, 06:38 PM
thats true. that explains why i like the gt500 alot.
The Monaro is over in Britain now, under the manufactorer of Vauxhall. Its nice, but theres alot of better sports cars on the market at the moment.
Jesus
01-12-2006, 04:19 AM
You can Hardly call the Monaro a Sports Car.

The Monaro is fine as the Monaro. It's just not a GTO, nor does it deserve the name.

If they mess it up?
It's already in production.
It's not going into mass production. The boys over at foose take in an old Shelby/Mustang and put a new body kit and new motor on it.
They produce around 500 a year I beleive.
Viper
01-15-2006, 12:27 AM
They as in Ford.
Jesus

Viper
01-15-2006, 01:03 AM
Is Ford known as Foose is 'RooLand?
Jesus
01-15-2006, 01:41 AM
No.
The Picture you showed up there is the modified shelby/mustang that is custom built by Foose.
Wait.
Maybe it isn't Foose.
Chip Foose designed the Eleanor for The Fast and Furious which is what you see above.
I dunno if its still Foose Modificastions that build them but its definatley not directley from Ford.

You mean Gone in 60 Seconds I believe.
I was referring to any planned, mass produced remake of it by ford.
Jesus
01-15-2006, 01:49 AM
I do.
And as far as we know there isn't any.
The car cost on average like 150k to do up and thats without the original purchase.
Viper
01-15-2006, 01:52 AM
Mass production would bring that down to a much more affordable cost. If they could keep that level of design perfection, it would possibly be worth producing.
Jesus
01-15-2006, 04:13 AM
Sure, But if tey could keep up the level of work.
The amount of work going into a car like that is phenomanel(sp) and it'd take some pretty damn awesome robots to match this stuff.
cpiasminc
01-15-2006, 06:47 PM
All the same, having a split bumper and lights taking up space where a license plate normally would be doesn't exactly make it street-legal. The production design for the new GT500 isn't so bad, although personally, I would have preferred it if they did allow for foglights (just a characteristic thing).
Rizon
01-15-2006, 06:51 PM
150k,
hmm think how many normal mustangs i could get for that.
£24,900 off a dealer... um cheap....umm stupid insurance though...

i hope they make the camaro. the car will be fast.
i had a ride in a new GTO.
THE CAR IS VERY VERY FAST.
BUT I DONT LIKE THE GRAND AM SHAPE LOL.
its a 12 sec car out of the show room on street tires.
The Dude
02-02-2006, 03:28 AM
I saw that car at the auto show, I think my ass can shit out better designs then that. And dont get me started on the new Challenger...
