Well, this week on Monday, I realized that I needed to get Electroplankton and it was only being sold online. Well, I remember Nintendo saying I could order it through them. I went to the official electroplankton site, http://electroplankton.nintendods.com/flash.html and clicked "buy now." When I did that, I saw a list of a bunch of 3rd party sales places, like Gamestop, BestBuy, ToysRus, etc. So, I picked ToysRUs seeing that EB & Gamestop had Electroplankton on backorder. Later, after filing the order, I was emailed the process sheet and it said I would probably recieve the game in March. That wasn't good enough for me.

I cancelled the order, and checked out BestBuy who had listed as it launching the week of 16th, and could get to me the week of 23rd. Well, I know BestBuy is no gaming place and they could be full of crap. Luckily for me, I got my usual email from Nintendo (cuz im a My Nintendo member, and stuff) and they had a link from that email to the direct ordering site, so I could order Electroplankton straight from Nintendo. I cancelled my BestBuy order and filed the big N order. I picked overnight shipping, and the game came in less than 16 hrs later! That's pretty good seeing how Amazon was saying "March." Not sure how I lucked out, but I did and I've played the game some. Here are my impressions thus far:

When I play the game, I get lost in it. It's like playing an instrument, but it's a living instrument. It's not so much a game as it is the ultimate toy. It combines art and sound in such a way that you will be left in awe at what can be accomplished by this application.

Nintendo expected this to be a sleeper title, which is why they launched it online only, but it is selling like hotcakes. At Amazon, for instance, who update their sales hour to hour, their top #1 amount of sales is Electroplankton. #3 is Animal Crossing Wild World. Then some ps2 and xbox stuff, then Mario Kart stuff, and the DS and Nintendogs. Made me feel good about big N.

Well, I wish I could explain Electroplankton a bit more, but it's in a class of its own. In fact, Nintendo categorized it under "OTHER" and its the first game to be under "OTHER." For good reason. This game involes using buttons, the stylis, and your own voice and other sounds to change and manipulate several living scenerios of digital plankton. You can come up with silly sounds or have a brilliant symphony of life come out of your DS. This is a type of application that will make you get lost in the colors, sounds, and fun. It's the ultimate toy. Pure and simple.

Should you get this game? I love it personally, and it's gotten great ratings around the internet. Also, it's quite the fresh face in a giant sea of cliche titles and other crap out in the gaming world (until the Revolution hits). Actually, this game could probably be a sort of preview of the Revolution. Not a preview of the types of games, but an example of how a new type of control style and hardware can produce unique, new, and fun experiences. If you dare to try something new and compelling, get this game. But if you crave the same ole same ole recycled FPS's, sports games, and mainstream stuff, by all means pass this title up. Although, judging by how most of you are diehard Nintendo fans, this title will be your bread and butter!

I remember that feeling when I first got it. It's awesome, but unfortunately, starts to fade after a few days.

Sadly what Zeep is saying is true, after a few days the game loses its appeal, sort of like Nintendogs did.

That's not what I said at all. I said that it loses that feel of immersion. I played it off and on for weeks, and I still play it occasionally. Especially now I've been palying it wuite a bit more because more people are talking about it.

Pretty much every game loses its "wow factor" after a little while. It's the gameplay that keeps you coming back. And from what I've read (I haven't played it) Electroplankton is like a relaxing art project that you can pick up without any stress (ala, say, Resident Evil) and to just enjoy. Like you were playing with your favorite childhood toy: losing its wow factor after a week, but you were still stuck on it for a while.

Does that at all sound right?
