Smashmouth (fuck me)

I grew up on the music that my parents listened to, minus Nirvana. Nirvana was just one of the first bands that I ever actually listened to, after realizing what music was and that it existed and that there was more than Weird Al in the world.

I liked almost nothing but country till I was 12, but I never knew any of their names except for Garth Brooks, I can't stand country now though. Tom Petty and REM are the only bands I still like that I remember liking from when I was really young.

Okay, here's what I'm gonna do:
1) I'm gonna put the top five first so you don't have to read everything else to get to it.
2) Then I'm gonna write a list of some of the most important music in my life, with brief explanations.
3) Finally I will say something about how typical of me it is to write more than neccessary for any music list thread.

BEGIN!

Radiohead
DJ Shadow
Daft Punk
Millencolin
Tool

NOW!

Radiohead
My mom would always listen to Radiohead, so I guess it was just always around, and now they're my favorite band of all time.
"My mom." Cool, I know.

DJ Shadow
Well, I started listening to 'Psyence Fiction' by Unkle, and then at XL Arbee suggested I listen to DJ Shadow.
And I did, and now still do.

Daft Punk
I used to visit a Flash animation collection site called Toilet Duk dot com, and one of the animations was a music video for 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' made by Evil Zug (I think.)
Then a few other people said they liked some songs, so I downloaded them and liked them.

Millencolin
They had a song in THPS2, 'No Cigar', and a guy at XL called Jim really liked them so I started listening.

Tool
Fooman's favorite band, and they seemed interesting.

Primus
They were kinda scary to me at the time, but in that alluring way.

Aceyalone
'Accepted Eclectic' is the song that single handedly got me into Hip-Hop.
In a big thread Arbee posted, he posted samples of loads of Hip-Hop, and there was this and...

Yesterday's New Quintet
'Sun Goddess'. The first Jazz I liked.
My intro to Madlib.

UMM...!

Oh!
It looks like I posted more than neccessary in this thread about music lists!
How typical of me!
