This extremely ignorant kid I know thinks that he has downloaded Half-Life 2, Halo 2, and a Gamecube emulator w/ some program called MIRC. Please give me one reason for me to not punch him in the face.

I could maybe kinda believe the Gamecube emulator. But I wouldn't punch him, 'tis much better to make him feel like a dumbshit.

Okay he says that games are completed 1 or 2 years before they are released and that's how he can download them. I think he downloaded the Halo demo because my friend asked him if it's on Earth and if it says Halo 2 on the title screen, and he said no. And I think he probably downloaded Half-Life 1. 2 isn't even done yet, in Gamepro it says hackers stole some of the code so they are still finishing it.

..The Half-Life 2 demo has been leaked I believe..so he might actually have it.

No, the Half-Life source code was stolen, and leaked by hackers. But not the game, and there is no way he has it. He could possibly have a compiled version of the Half-Life 2 source code that someone added crappy textures to (the textures from HL2 weren't stolen). Halo 2 isn't finished yet, and there aren't any GameCube emulators.

The source code was stolen, about a week or 2 later there was a playable beta version going around the internet. All I know is there is a playable Half-Life 2 with over 10 single-player levels all over mIRC.

Shit 'Slan, just like call him a fuckyboob and punch him in the arm. He's not in touch with reality, or the future. I know the kid, he still plays Tony Hawk 1 demos on his Dreamcast.

So he could possibly have Half-Life 2 just not the whole thing? And there's no way he could have Halo 2 or a G-cube emulator right?

Cry me a river.
Every time I hear that line nowadays, I think of Justin Timberlake and his song. *shivers*
Oh yeah, and Halo 2 would NOT be available online. Complete BS.

Half-Life 2 isn't playable yet, even leaked. I know I would've heard about it. But yeah, this kid is an idiot. Games are finished less than a month (sometimes only a week) before they are printed and sent to stores.

no really, it is.
My roommate downloaded the compiled version of it. I wouldn't even call it a beta; more like an alpha build of the game. There's no story or progression in the game, and like some people have said, a lot of textures are missing. But he's got the enemy AI working in some parts, sounds and guns, and the physics engine is working perfectly.
I played the E3 demo thing, but that's it. I don't want to spoil it for myself.
