Yeah, so the console-wide release for this will be coming out in 5 days. That includes, Gamecube, XBOX, PS2, and PC. Soooo, you guys haven't been talking about this game at all so I'm going to go ahead and tell you that I'm royally excited about this badboy. I already downloaded the PC demo for this, and its daaaaaaamn fine. It includes one circuit race, one drag race, one car (super-riced Nissan 350Z) and the ability to play either of those tracks online. My impressions:
-First of all, the graphics are absolutlely sick. With maxed out graphical settings, it looks exactly like a cut-scene from like splinter cell (thats what it reminded me of). When you hit the NOS, everything around you gets incredibly blurry and everything just feels so fast. The first time I did it, I got all panicy and proceeded to crash into a telephone pole, its that fast.
-Now, the circuit race is where the single-player game is centered. Its pretty damn tough. 4 cars go at a time and the demo only gave me one lap. The cars handle exactly like they should, so none of that "floor it and just ram into shit" that most need for speed (minus porsche unleashed) games have used. Drifting is important to learn and the track available had a few shortcuts to help shave time. I played that online, and although not as popular as the drag, there were still plenty of challengers that schooled me.
-The drag. ooooooooooh my, this is whats going to be keeping this game alive for awhile. The course is just like a regular course except its about a half-mile in a straight line with some obsticales in the way. This course has a train that randomly decides to cross the road when you're going 180 mph. With this, there is much more emphasis on conserving NOS and shifting properly. Shift to early and everyone zooms past you, shift too late and your engine blows and you're out of the race. You have no choice but to run manual, and by keeping your rpms up at the start, you can get a boost if you do it right (right where the "redline" starts.)
In my opinion, this is one of the better ricer racing games that has come out in awhile. I'll definitely be buying it next week, because I'm itching to hit the drag with my turbo Skyline. Oh yeah, and PCers can play against PS2 people. That's a plus. The roomies are getting it for Gamecube, too, so I look forward to some drunk 4 man racing in the future.
So yeah, buy this game.
