View Full Version : I find the lack of Apple threads... disturbing.

Alright, here is one to get the ball rolling:

MacBook Pro. It ships as early as tomorrow, or as late as a month from now. Any questions, comments, concerns about this almighty portable powerhouse. Personally, I really dislike the off proportions the iSight camera creates. I also dislike the lack of FireWire 800 and the single 400 port. I also dislike the temperature at which it runs, think a skillet, just sexier looking. Other than that the idea of a portable that has the same processor power as the 17" iMac. AhhhH! I can hardly wait for this, despite it's short comings, it is going to be great! What are your thoughts of this new product? It might sway me away from that PowerMac... :pleased:

When ever you find interesting Apple news, you are always welcome to make a new thread. And not just Apple, but Windows, Linux, programming, questions, or just anything you think the tech heads here would like.

Anyway, I am excited to see the MacBook Pro in action. I definitly like what I have heard, and just want to touch and hold it in the store to check it out. I have not read much about it, but how hot does it run. I did not realize it was like a skillet. I do want one, but know that I dont need it and the money can be used better elsewhere for the time being.

Tomorrow? I've heard February 15th. I've never really used FW800 so I don't know the loss. I'm not running external RAID for storage.

Yeah, I'm holding out for a Rev. B MacBook or an Intel iBook.

I say tomorrow as in "February." This is Apple, remember. And I guess the skillet was exaggerating. It runs slightly hotter than my 1.33 12" PB. So... errr... I don't know, hot but not too hot.

A 65W to 85W power supply? Steve did try to make a point of Intel being more efficient per watt but it seems like we're drawing more power. Then again it is a lot faster than a G4.

The G4 is turning into a great embedded CPU. Fanless cooling and low power is a requirement for devices like that.

Ok, I'll let it slide... this time...

Well, I need to know if I should get a MacBook or desktop. Let us see how things unfold.

Likewise, I was the only person up to the task of editing video in iMovie for a project. Everyone freaked out at the prospect of touching a computer for anything other than AIM.

I would have loved to have an iBook there to show off. But then again, my e-penis needs to be huge with a desktop.

Precisely.

Precisely.I might as well just buy a dirt cheap G4 iBook in a few months and save my cash for a new desktop.

I am keeping my PowerBook.

I have a capable portable, now I need a power hungry powerhouse. I am waiting for a Rev. B or C though. Of course.

I decent G4 iBook to take notes on is all I need. I just need OS X, Airport Extreme, and a G4. I don't want to deal with a dead logic board in a G3.

I read in an article that they're going to release a Firewire 800 model of the MacBook Pro...or an add-on...I think the first. I may end up getting the MacBook Pro 256MB graphics card version...it looks sweet.

I'm getting a loan out for a Powermac. Will my Girlfriend agree to me spending so much money on a computer? Hell no.

Sendok
02-13-2006, 02:32 AM
Yea, I'm saving for a trip to see my gf's parents and fam this x-mas (gotta get tickets this may for a decent price...either way I'm paying around 1,200 for the ticket alone...gah)

...Lombard dosen't have enough room for pics, and I can't find a powersource that would work on Indonseian circuts (apparently there is for the newer-ish 'books.) so if I want to take pics and something for plane I need a new comp ....gah.
