Does anyone know the date of the BIG Sony PS3 event scheduled for sometime in February?

A new platform always presents new challenges and opportunities for game developers. This technical presentation introduces PLAYSTATION 3, the new state-of-the-art entertainment platform from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Well, it's Feb 1st, and we can assume the rumored Feb 5th event is out of the question.
With MS struggling with Xbox 360 supply and Sony still making money off of the PS2, I won't be surprised if the event has been postponed another month or two. Or they may even wait until E3 before announcing anything.
The Blu Ray player built in the PS3 is the only motive that they have to announce a launch date and a price.

But i'm expecting it to happen considering the PS conference happens every year (as far as I know) and thats where I would imagine we would get some info. If you are confused this far then get ready for further frustration as Mr. Saeki could not confirm a date for PS3s first showing although he did claim that the February 2006 event expected to be the first demonstration of PlayStation 3 in action has been cancelled. Instead, the Sony exec claims, SCE will host a special event which will stun and impress gamers worldwide, although he refused to go into further detail.

Whos to say its an event? Isnt it just a "February Suprise"? And to me a suprise is something thats well... suprising... For all we know at midnight tonight they could slap the PS3 on store shelves and let people buy it (just an example there). I feel if this was a large organized event, it would have been announced by now to let people attend, but it hasnt so I think its just more of an announcement or press conference by Sony to reveal whatever this suprise is.

I think something is bound to come out this month. The PS3 information event for developers the 22nd February is for any developer associated with IGDA and there seem to be no NDA associated with the event.

I think the time has come for some serious bean spilling in one form or another.

The february event may be some kind of press event that can be announced with short notice.

They said it would be a big surprise, perhaps part of the surprise is that we are not knowing when it's going to happen. :uhh:

Well, this may be way off, but this might hint at when the event is or was supposed to happen. It is an altered version I made of an e3 slide. It would suggest near the end of the month, but take with a grain of salt.
