Evolution Studios has for the last 5 years, produced the official WRC series of PS2 rally games for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, the most recent of which “WRC Rally Evolved” has the most sophisticated and realistic driving physics model ever, for a driving game. Evolution is currently contracted by Sony to produce a ‘next-gen’ PS3 launch title called MotorStorm.

I don't think this is 100% official confirmation... But wasn't Motorstorm already announced/thought to be a launch title?

It's on the devs homepage, how can it be any more official than that?

Lol... I just never really trust somthing like that unless its on a major gaming site. But like I said, isn't this already old news?? I think we've known it was a launch title fo a while.
I'm more interested in this WRC game. I really like WRC as a whole and would love to have a game like that. I watched a vid at IGN and it looks great. Anyone know what it would take to get it imported to the states, and if I can go online with it from the US? Also would I be able to understand what they are saying? Oh and could my PS2 even play it?
EDIT: I just watched it again... and I realised. This can give us some hints or clues on how Motorstorm may play and how talented Evolution studios is with what Sony gives them to work with. So far the game looks visually impressive and the damage engine doesn't look to shabby (although nothing close to the MS trailer).
Link to vid. (http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/749/749078/vids_1.html)
EDIT 2: Oh and here is some features I came across that may find their way to MS... I for one think the random weather would be aweomse.
Features:
* Interactive events that affect game play - Unpredictability is the name of the game as you race across the world's most challenging terrains without knowing what's around the corner...a crash, a flood, a forest fire, tumbling mountain rocks...who knows? The 'events' change every time you play so get prepared to expect the unexpected just like the professionals...
* Multi-car wheel-to-wheel action - Up to 8 cars on the same track, at the same time in the on-line Multi-car mode! This features 16 stunning, purpose built circuits that capture the best of every rally country. Go head-to head and smash the other cars off the track to win as you navigate not only the challenging terrains but the fierce competitors...
* Smash & Crash- More Realistic Than Ever... - On the edge and closer to reality than ever before, the new damage system means collisions are more satisfying as debris is strewn from the car. For the first time in WRC history the rally cars can sustain any inflicted crash and collision damage across the whole stage, with the handling changing to reflect this.
* Real-life co-driver- Hear the Fear! - The vastly improved co-driver signals now give players the feeling of a real human being guiding them through the challenging stages of every rally. Believable and convincing, the co-driver now reacts dynamically to the action, giving detailed, impassioned help and guidance through pace notes drawn up by a real rally champion. The co-driver is sensitive to the racing conditions: his voice changes according to the road surface and breakneck speed, conveying real emotions in both victory and defeat.
* Stunning new audio-visual effects - The developers at Evolution Studios have worked their magic yet again - pushing PlayStation 2 even further to produce breathtaking graphics, sensational real-rally sounds and awesome new effects - the incredible deformable environments means you can crash into a wall and watch it collapse! This winning combination delivers players a sensation of increased speed that will leave them literally shaking on their sofas!
* A completely new particle system - has also been added to WRC: Rally Evolution(wt) that generates dense smoke, fire and deep water - all of which affects visibility and the handling of the rally car - putting players out there on the edge.
* Increased accessibility - Even more people can feel like a true World Rally pro through a range of new features. A progressive championship mode starts with easier stages first. Optional driver aids mean the car can be tuned depending on players' ability and redesigned tracks let beginners power slide around corners with ease so the thrill of rallying can be captured and enjoyed whatever your level.

HandyCrap101? Do you have a source for those "features"? I want to post it at another board but I know i'll get lynched if I do (without a link).

Those are features for the game "WRC Rally Challenge". I posted them because the company that made WRC is making MS and I suggested some of those features may carry over to MS. Incase you didn't understand. If not, don't worry about it:hump: .
About the source. I honestly had a brain lapse just now and cant figure out... Just go to google and type in WRC Rally Evolution features or search on IGN or somthing... As soon as I remember I'll post a link. :duh:

I have WRC2 and WRC3 and they are great. Evolution studios original developers of the first WRC game came from military simulation world and you could somewhat see that in WRC1 as the long distance terrain graphics was sort of better than the short distance graphics. But the later versions are not second to GT3-GT4 in my opinion and some of the tracks in the Italian alps are just breath-taking.
If they keep the same high standard in Motorstorm and take advantage of the PS3 hardware I think Sony will have a killer launch title.
I wonder why Sony never made a US version, but I guess they judged the market would be to small for this hardcore rally game, but you will have it on the PSP if that is some sort of comfort?

Wow if this is a launch game I might have to reconsider buying the ps3 launch day... *cries of joy* This game looks sweet. *crosses fingers* Heavenly Sword would be nice for launch as well, if so the ps3 is mine day 1

SCEE and Evolution Studios Unveil Exclusive Off-Road Racer
MotorStorm to Redefine Racing for Next Generation PlayStation
E3, LOS ANGELES, 17 May 2005 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Evolution Studios today unveiled MotorStorm™, a visceral off-road racing game designed exclusively for the next generation PlayStation®. MotorStorm is the first next generation PlayStation title to be developed by Evolution Studios, following the company’s announcement last August that it would develop games exclusively for SCEE and Sony platforms.
MotorStorm delivers brutal off-road racing, plunging players into a frenzied environment awash with grit, mud and petrol, in a game that leaves the standard rules of racing in the dust. Gone are the limits of power restrictions, limited classes and qualifying rounds. Players simply choose their vehicle from a massive range – including dirt bikes, ATVs, sand rails, rally cars, monster trucks and everything in between – then hit the track in a no-holds-barred sprint to the finish line. Carving a swathe of destruction through the ever-changing wilderness, players must compete in a gasoline-fuelled, horsepower spectacle where the only rule is to try and stay alive.
“We’ve enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Evolution Studios over the past four years and are delighted to be collaborating with them on next generation PlayStation software”, said Phil Harrison, Executive Vice President Development, SCEE. “MotorStorm takes advantage of Evolution Studios’ strong racing heritage and their technical expertise, delivering an intense off-road racing game that will redefine the racing genre for the next generation.”
“The next generation PlayStation technology has allowed us to create an off-road racer unlike any other”, said Martin Kenwright, CEO, Evolution Studios. “MotorStorm will be an intense celebration of racing as subculture, an ultra-gritty racing spectacular that will create a new space in the next generation of cinematic lifestyle entertainment.
”More than a contest, MotorStorm is a lifestyle, and when the day’s racing ends, the parties start! When the sun goes down the music goes up and the sideshows begin. Not for the faint-hearted, the credo is No Rules, No Laws, No Barriers and No Limits, on and off the tracks.

This will be very interesting because MotorStorm had the same graphical quality as the famed Killzone PS3 trailer.
If the PS3 devs kick out graphics like that at launch then we will see alot of mouths drop.
This will have many people confused too because even the most experienced of game developers have said that we won't see graphics like that until 2 to 3 years after launch.

I'll defintley be riding on an ATV or DirtBike. The biggest allure of this game for me is the (seemingly) large array of vehicles. I hope that physics makes every run on each track different in its own (be it large or small) unique way.
That and online gameplay, nothing better :)

Maybe launch for North America or Europe, but i doubt they could finish the game this spring tho

Yeah, its going to be interesting to see how they balance all the different vehicles' strengths and weaknesses against one another, their effectiveness on each kind of terrain etc. The open-ended nature of it all sounds like it could be really awesome if it all goes through.
On the technical front, if they do manage to significantly leverage Cell and the physics engine does turn out to be something more advanced than we've seen up until this point, Im kinda curious how thats gonna translate over networked based play with several players at once. If its really computationally intensive, would latency start to become an issue? Hopefully the multi-player wouldnt have to be dumbed down or anything.

Sorry to bring this up but Does anyone knows the name of the " designer of the PS2 and the PS3 ?
Probaly you would say Ken Kutaragi but he is just the creator of the PlayStation but I rmember there' s a designer in SOny who designed the PS2 and the PS3 but I don't remember his name.

I don't think any one person designed the PS2/PS3, I'm pretty sure it was a group effort.

you mean the body design? or the whole architecture.
Kuatargi is the man behind the power of the entire Playstaion systems. and im pretty sure he's also get involved with every Playstation systems designs.

Thats actually a great question. I think its more or less a candy coated remark but one of the Killzone guys (dev team) talked about how the Cell is made for these networking tasks. What that actually means in performance...i'm not sure. I'm now really interested in how this will turn out now that you've brought that up.

Yes I mean the body design , I remember from the time of the PS2 there is someone in Sony who was behind the design of the console , I don't remember his name. But he said that He put the straightparallel lines on the sides of the PS2 to make it cool and he choose to paint the console in Black and blue for the theme of Galaxy and blue for the planet because we called the earth the blue planet.
I don't remember his name but he comes from Sony japanese staff if someone can help please I really need his name. :) thanx

Yeah, I suppose its a question that can be posed for next-gen development in general. If complex physics engines and other CPU tasks like dynamic AI become more and more of a major focus in the next couple of years (which I hope), what problems with latency will arise with this increasingly network based paradigm? The benchmarks IBM recently ran for Cell based server's handling physics processing could be an interesting path to look at.
They are european developers this means propably that the game will be first released in europa and this means that this game will be a EUROPEAN Launch Game.
Release maybe End 2006.
