Sony has revealed that the PS3 would be capable of processing human portraits in real-time, with special effects added, like hair-style, glasses and etc. Today, we have discovered a short video demontrating this technology.
This video is demonstrating a motion portrait processing software running on a personal computer, developed by Sony. It is very amazing to see computer rendered human portraits moving lively like that. And this amazingly looking portrait was made from only one expressionless photo of the specimen..

Good to see that again, been a while, but I forgot how amazing the potential for that technology really is.
I'm sure there was a topic on this a while back, I'll leave this one open until I find it.

yeah this technology is absolutely great , I imagine the Next Eye toy on PS3 wich could do great things.
This is a new demo but comparable to the one from last October from the CEATAC JAPAN 2005 with the Cell pro.
But this one is made on a personnal computer with a software.
edit : can someone try to make the video in WMP or AVI please ?

And it also ties in with what i say Sony can offer that is different to MS Live! imagine being ablt to give your girfriend huge breast. the best thing is she wouldn't even know it. or perhaps make her look like your your fantasy filmstar. if my girlfriend reads this, NO WAY would you catch me doing it i promise darling :)

actually i was just being flippant about something that will possible. okay, not cup size (replace that with a curled up mushtash) okay not a filmstars face (replace that with a gorilla) come on it'd be hillaries trying to have a serious conversation with a gorilla... and fun, which is the main thing. its not all about games you know :)

i think this goes without question. as far as i can see there are no technical problems at all. why should there be? perhaps Xb could illuminate us with his contribution here, he knows a lot more about technology than me, but like a said, why would it be a problem?

if it is as simple as takin a picture with the eyetoy do you think it would be possible to put your face on an in game character? that would be insane.

ye, of course it will ba able to do that. do you think Sony would pass on an opportunity to do something that for some reason seems to have slipped off the radar as far as wish lists are concerned. if they don't their crazy. take it as a given, even though i can feel Xb breathing down my neck right now. i promiss you it will. think it has been mentioned before anyway.

sevin have you downloaded the portrait demo, its an example of what cell can do and is more than likely to be incorporated in eye-toy2. if its the one with the cat-walk model, imagine full body captures in game

All I can say is wow.. the applications possibilities are amazing. But I'm a little skeptic about this being in the PS3. Is there some kind of interviw or transcript of the interview? This could be just a cell application not PS3 one.

What about avatars? I think for eyetoy chat you could change your face to an elf or give yourself tattoos or new hairstyles, whatever. I think that would be an awesome feature.
Just checked it out there now, and yes, it's awesome. I'd really love to see Sony implement a feature such as this. Fingers crossed that the next Eyetoy could be capable of something like this.

So let's imagine Eyetoy snapping a portrait, and as Cell sits idle, it refines the picture for however long it takes. It would then store this info somewhere, and games can simply call up this data and map it onto characters. That way, each game does not have to go thru the trouble of mapping its own portrait, but rather call up a standard dataset.

This information is a little old. Actually, it's many months old. You could possibly find this in one of the Cell threads if memory serves me right. But there is also a topic on both this and the mirror video.
This is the first time I have watched this video, but my first impression was that it looks and feels like it will work well on a games console. If it were to be implemented on the eye-toy, where the player captures a picture of their face to be used ingame, I would truly believe this is a huge leap from this gen to the next one.

From the first time this poped up (a few months ago), i recall it having nothing to do with Cell, i think it was just running on a 'regular' PC.
