The CyberMan GVD510-3D is built on the "Page Flipped 3D Stereo VGA" signal format which was developed for the LCD shutter glass system. The headset uses a signal format that is available on NVIDIA-based graphics cards for fast market penetration. In addition, this product has a automatic scaling function that makes it compatible with various VGA display output formats and it can also accept composite video and S-Video, which can be driven by the Microsoft Xbox®, including the new Xbox 360(TM), and the SONY PlayStation® 2 game console.

not sure whether this as been posted else where but i recall someone suggesting this in another thread and thought it was worth considering again. i know it says PS2 but its driven using Nvidia chipset. this could point to future product.
Don't know if theses googles fits PS3, but we could have much better.
As PS3 can deliver 1080p images on 2 screens, that would allow it to produce an image in 1080p for googles... That would be awsome

It would need double HDMI slots to work. From what I just read it doesn't..

I think there was an article about it on Engadget. Apparently, they found it very dissapointing, and hard to setup. It to the guy on the showfloor 30 min to set it up, and when he finally did, it "was like staring into a very bright light". Apparently everything was hazy, and the assitant told them that on "33% of PS2 games support 3d."

I don't like VR for my console :uhh:
On the whole I don't really like the idea of this isolated unit, I think it's kind of killing the communal aspect of people gathering around a screen while somebody plays a game and they get to spectate. I've had lots of fun watching a friend play through the Silent Hill games while a bunch of us chill and just watch, and it's a great experience. Having this unit that only the player can see is almost...selfish. Plus I think in the long run it would be a waste of money, hehe.
Of course, if this unit were used for something like that big controller was used for that mech game on XBox (I can't believe I forgot the game's name!), that could be cool. Still a waste of money though :-p

Yeah playing with freind is more fun then by yourself, even if its a single player game, but it would still be cool, provided it doesn't cost an arm and a leg or kill your eyes.

The name itself says it all... It's a "Stereo VGA" device. Meaning each display is VGA resolution (640x480).
It also doesn't change the fact that for stereo 3d, you still have to render the scene twice from two different cameras. Not such a big deal when you're rendering an object in a visualization tool, but when you're playing a game and you're doing per-pixel processing on a million polys...
My own video card came with shutter glasses as well (it's a CAD workstation card), and it predates the PS2. But at best, you can use the shutter glasses within visualization in a CAD tool, and that's still pretty much the biggest use of VR today.
I think people are just a little too wishful in their thinking.

Funny I got a survey questionaire thing from these people a while ago asking me about what type of console I had/was going to buy, and if I would ever consider using a head mounted display. Those sorts of questions.
I think the idea behind this product is great and all but I still think Microdisplay technology needs to incease ten fold before it becomes a practical alternative to a console or computer. - Simply put I dont want a VR system until its no bigger than a pair of sun glasss and can display an image t least equal to 720p.
Oh VR, how lovely ist thee, maybe i'll see you again in ten years. ;)

Well, if the goggles are not the actual display themselves, that was achievable well over 20 years ago. i.e. if you have a separate display that is showing alternating left-right images on every refresh, and the glasses are simply shutter glasses that make sure only the appropriate eye is exposed to the image at a given time.
Shutter glasses are still not very feasible for games, though, simply because their usability depends on a guaranteed framerate irrespective of anything. On top of which, since you're alternating images on each refresh, 60 fps is not fast enough (too flickery). 96 Hz is minimum for most people -- it's still flickery, but fast enough that you can tune it out after a while if your focus moves around.
Lets face it, Sony dosn't want us buying happiness :(
although, im not 100% sure that this is the best method to use for getting 3D. There are 2 other options you know...
