Benny likes the new fifth generation ‘video’ iPod and so he should, it’s an excellent piece of kit. Many millions of you out there clearly do as well and that’s also ok. Yet, if you look deep inside, way down into that secret place of self denial (beside that belief that tells says you can still make it as a professional footballer) weren’t you just that little bit disappointed when it was unveiled?
I have to say I was and if what is being ‘confirmed’ around the web right now is true there may well be a good reason for that. Essentially what is emerging is that the latest generation iPod was not really the video iPod but more of a 4.5G. Furthermore, if these reports are correct, what is the true heir to this much banded title is far more exciting.
Gone apparently is the 2.5in display to be replaced by a whopping 3.5in touchscreen that covers the entire front of the player, while the click wheel is now virtual and will appear whenever a finger is laid on the screen. Just how cream-tastically good this could be is obvious, though the potential for smudge-hell is also equally clear.
Despite this radical redesign, however, the mooted sixth generation model will supposedly not feature integrated WiFi and still connect to TVs using the conventional cabling system of current devices. A proposed release day is as soon at late March or even 1 April, which marks Apple’s 30th anniversary. This surely would be a fitting tribute.

^that is one rumor I just can't see being true.
I know, it'd be nice though.

idk, I don't wanna touch the screen on anything more than I have to.
As it says, the potential for smudge would be huge. Especially with the click wheel implemented within the touch screen.

I think Apple has had a big enough problem w/the Nano screen scratching issue to make its next gen iPod focus on only using the screen.

That is based off old rumor pics of supposed iPod videos.
What about the touch screen patient that Apple have? I know I'm going on about this a bit, but it seem to be popping up an awful lot...
A video iPod with a larger screen is slightly more convincing. I enjoy watching episodes of Grey's Anatomy on my 5G iPod's 2.5" screen while riding the L home from work. I have a feeling I'd enjoy it a bit more on a 3.5" display. However, Apple has already sold a large number of TV shows and music videos formatted to fit the 2.5" display, which wouldn't look as nice on a 3.5" display on a device the size of the current iPod. There's also the matter of fingerprints and smudges. Owners of black iPods and iPod nanos will attest to the fact that the devices are smudge magnets. Controlling them by means of an onscreen display will only add to the problem.

A stylus would be the obvious answer for the smudging, but it isn't quite as conveinient as the trusty click wheel we're all used to now.
