I've noticed that a lot of my friends take the piss out of me simply because I choose Mac's over PC's. I'm often described as "obsolete" and I need to get Windows XP because Microsoft is the best company in the world.

What the hell is going on here?

It's hard to turn around to your friends and tell them what retards they're being, because they come back with some on the spot, uneducated answer and I'll have no say.

I was just talking to a lady friend on Adium there and I told her I couldn't see one of her pictures because I'm using a Mac. "Just click on my name and it should pop up" No, I'm using Adium not MSN I said. You know what a Mac is don't you?

Yeah, it's really old.

Perhaps the select few of my friends really are retards and totally cut off to anything outside of Microsoft's world but it worries me. There's people missing out on great products and a fantastic OS...

I'm sure if I asked her if she knew what an iPod was she'd give me a positive fucking answer.

Yeah, I find that most people are clueless when it comes to multi-client chat programs on Windows. They'll have two or more programs open at once.

I'm just getting a little tired of it, that's all. It annoys me that people still refer to Macs as being "old". They just don't know what they're missing out on.:)

It is the old "I used macs in middle school. they sucked (system 7 [at ease] -9)"

So I say, show them a picture of the super sexy PowerMac and send them a trojan.

Coded-Dude

I would rather have a MAC, but price point keeps me reserved(for now)
I will own one very soon(maybe a quad core laptop)

[EDIT]
We used TRASH-80's in middle school (trs80)

I agree with Dude. I would love to own a Mac myself, but the price is too much and does not return enough value to invest into. One of these days though, I will grab myself one, but until then, I will continue on with my Windows and Linux Distros.

There is a 5 year old mac selling for 1/3 the price of a new portable one. Please not this computer is running the latest version of everything and the fact that most people buy a new mac because they want the new one, not because they need a new one. Hell, I even have one of those (year older). But there always is a Mac mini. when you decide to get something better then you have an ideal media center. Presto.

It's razor thin with with Dell Latitude vs. MacBook Pro. The only really benefit of the Dell is the faster burner. In most cases it's cheaper to buy the Mac. Scary, huh?

That's just the thing, I want an Intel Powermac (or whatever it'll be called) as well. A new Mac would be more viable.

yeah....but for me, if I am gonna buy a mac(i need a new laptop) I want the "top of the line" MAC

I can build a PC for way cheaper than a NEW "powerful" MAC desktop would cost.

Not enough return as in, it will not effect the bottom line of what I do. Sure it would be great, but it will not increase my bottom line.

Windows offers what the casual user needs. The average user won't get much benefit from a Mac and may find themselves frustrated at missing programs and support they are used to.

For the more techno savvy, a Mac makes more sense.

The claim either is ingorant for using one or the other with no consideration for the end user requirements is itself ignorant.

I'm just getting a little tired of it, that's all. It annoys me that people still refer to Macs as being "old". I've fixed all of my family's PCs and had to run them through everything that I did while they just sat there and scratched their heads. And there are a lot of the same programs on Macs as Windows...a big one being Office, etc...

The big problem is there just isn't as many games on Macs as there are on Windows. Maybe the switch to Intel will have some effect on that. However, I still have to use both for various reasons. There are some much better apps on Windows that aren't on Macs and vice versa. I need the best of both worlds, though I hate maintaining Windows PCs.

Anyway I got used to windows so much, I love OS X but I just know Windows so well it's intuitive and I can do whatever I want with it.

I'm to comfy to switch now.

"You can't play games!!111".I usually just play Doom III and WOW on the Mac. I'm more of a console guy, myself.

I'd have to disagree with that. When I'm not feeling "techno savvy" I only really use my iBook for browsing the web, using Microsoft word for my coursework and playing wow once in a while. A Mac is really tailored for both the prosumer and normal consumer, hence their professional Mac range (MacBook Pro, Powermac) and their range aimed at everyday consumers (iMac, iBook).

While I have my "techno savvy" hat on, I use a Powermac.

There seems to be an awful lot of contradicting opinons on Macs these days, some people saying they're for the techno savvy people who web design, video edit etc... Or they're too simplified, basically made for retarded techno-phobes that don't know how to use Windows properly.

Mac is EXTREMLEY accesible. I love how the hot keys on the Macs are set up. Being able to connect to a server share, a certain folder, a certain app etc just by pressing a few keys together is great.

Also, I had installed OS X for the first time a few days ago... sooo easy compared to windows. It truely is just boot to the disk, set where you want to install and your done.

I'm convinced that Macs are much easier to grasp than Windows. To bad most of the PC games I play with are only accessible on my PC.

Yep but theres certain PC games that have got me hooked (Battlefield 2). I'm on the cuff of retireing my main PC though since the PS3 should quench my gaming needs for a very long time. Then I'll probably be back on PC gaming again (2-3 years down the line).

Yeah never got into joint ops but I still have the disk maybe I will give it a try again someday. You need two friends too. The most powerful combat and smallest combat group is three. Medic, Rifleman, and Engineer. And the AK-47 is the best gun made on God's green Earth. And...you can run and hit targets.

Windows certainly isn't what I would call a bad OS, but I do prefer Linux. A few of my friends do too, and those who don't all say they would like to try it but they would miss all of the games supported by Windows. I haven't really used a Mac enough to make a fair judgment, but I'm sure it's great too. It's still way too pricey though, especially when compared to Linux... Come to think of it, I don't know anybody who actually uses one. I guess NE PA is just anti-Mac for whatever reason...

My father is absolutely terrified of Linux. When some people see me using my laptop at school, they are very confused by what they see.

"What program are you using to make explorer look like that? Was it free?"

You have to be fair to these people, though. The way Microsoft has the OS market by the neck and without any reason to seek an alternate it is to be expected.

You can get a nice Mac Mini from $499 (up to $699 with all the fixings).

In my head, I got it planned out as having the PC on hand but using my eMac for general browsing and whatnot (like i'm doing now).

*I am feeling the crunch with this eMac though. A 1GHz G4? isn't really cutting it as far as having a bunch of apps open at once. I also want to watch High Definition mpegs at times and this baby chokes when I even attempt to watch a 720p video.

Honestly, if you want to try a Mac out but aren't willing to switch get a refurbished Mac Mini. They run from $379 - 519 depending on the model you want to get.
