View Full Version : What is Sony waiting for?

I mean it's been since E3 last year since we've gotten any real MEAT on the PS3, I just can't understand what they're waiting for. It's not like they wouldn't have anything to show, I know they have bucketloads. I'm tinkering between being on the edge of my toes waiting for news to just giving up.
It doesn't look like we're gonna get anything this February either. I think we might have to wait til E3 to get anything of interest

Well, here's some news from the March issue of OPM:
Beyond the obvious "it'll be better than anything you've ever seen before," what we really know isn't a whole heckuva lot. We all want to know the ship date (sooner than you think!), the cost of the system (expensive at first), the cost of games ($70 dollars is not unrealistic), and the list of launch titles. And what about online play? What about HDTV needs? What about GTA4?!

In the coming months, beginning with the April issue, you'll see a big leap in OPM's PS3 coverage."
The bold part alone would literally shove me squarely into the Revolution camp. Low cost console? New games? Reasonable prices? Sold. I sure as hell not going to pay more than $50 for a game, let alone $70 (and they brush it off like nothing).

Sounds more like they're way off schedule.

Fuck that, there's no reason games should cost $20 more. PC games don't..

Sounds more like they're way off schedule.I doubt they're so off schedule they'd have to cancel all major news planned for February 06 since the start

Not to mention $50 is a ridiculous price as it is...
Games were speculated to be as high as $70 in Japan though, which is pretty much normal. I don't expect them to go any higher than $60 here (which is still lame!)

$70 is crazy, more like $69.99.

Remember when RSX was supposed to tape out by August 2005? It only just taped out not too long ago. They were way off their initial predictions with that.
Then go to the dev kits, which are only now "final" seeing as how the GPU is finally finished. If they haven't missed the boat entirely, they just barely made it. I doubt we'll see or hear anything until E3.
Honestly, it looks like ole Phil was right.

You are off with that one, RSX was supposed to be ready to ship to devs in december, it was only a month late. And plus guys, all these delays could simply equal Sony tweaking PS3 hardware so that it truly does seem like a leap ahead of 360. Everyone is getting a little too worked up about this. I would prefer them wait to release a quality product than rush their console out (like the other guys).

I said tape out, not ship. I distinctly remember the tape out date for the GPU being "by the end of Summer 2005" and August 2005. As we all know, we didn't get news of it finally doing so until not too long ago. Only then was it shipped (and we find out now that it's not the final version either).

I'd rather they have a console similar to the 360, than one that gets tweaked to eternity and ending up with a overpriced paperweight.

So if the tape out was aimed for August last year, what the heck have they been doing?

Doesn't make much sense, would you rather buy a game that the devs had no time limit on making, vs. one where they could only put a few months into it? For instance, look at the majority of 360 launch titles. Rushed, and inferior. Some, like Gun and Tony Hawk, are a disgrace to next gen gaming. You can compare their screens side by side with current gen systems and they are indistinguishable. Why? because they were rushed. So, would you rather end up with PS 2.5 instead of a quality true next gen system?

They're rushed because it definitely looks like most developers are either not putting much of an effort into their 360 (or any next gen game) or they're simply waiting for the PS3 to hit the ground.
Let's put it this way: I'd like to play some PS3 games without going broke or waiting another 6 months to a year.

I can see your point, but it's been assumed for quite some time that you would have to wait that long anyway (assuming you are in the u.s.)

Oh, I wasn't expecting in the U.S. before mid-November anyway, I'm just putting it out there that Sony's gotta know when to hold/fold/whatever. The OPM bit from the editor-in-chief did Sony no favors whatsoever with that speculated $70 price point.
...Or this could all be a very clever scheme to drop a bomb of a price on us.
