Koei became the first Japanese publisher to announce solid development plans for Sony's upcoming PSP portable gaming device.

In commenting on the PSP, a company representative had the following to say: "We're expecting it to be a success. Considering the specs, we wouldn't be surprised at a price above 60,000 yen (about $555).

Not the official price obviously but simply more indication that the PSP will not threaten much of GB market share.

PSP will never beat GBA SP with that price. I could be wrong though. I hope not.

Consoles should NEVER be more than $200...if its higher its a rip off and not worth it.

First, I'll believe a dev over a gamers word and it would have to sell well below production cost to be priced at $299.99.

Either way, PSP will cost way more than the GBA. Why would I buy a handheld that costs much more than a console which can do much cooler things?

Why? To be cool....it has worked for Sony before...ex, PS1 and PS2.

Well (i think).. some consoles do sell for a lower price than it actually costs to make.. (Xbox) in hopes of good software sales.

Yes but now by the margin Phantagram suggested. $555 - $150 = One huge frikkin loss.

They said that they say that $555 could be a feasible price for selling in stores. Meaning it probably costs less than that to make, and I'm sure their estimates are off by a little bit. So perhaps it only costs $400 or so to make.. you're right I also couldn't see it debuting at $150.
