That is the sounds of me taking the plunge. Get it?
I'm looking for a new lappy, and I'm looking to go Apple. I've made up my mind that I'm going to get one, so any assbags looking to berate me for my decision can suck it.
The thing is, I know nothing of Apple-tops. The laptop wouldn't be used for much more than interweb antics and paper writing, though I may want to piece together the occasional short film.
Should I go with a MacBook pro? Are they going to pull an iPod Video on me and release a much better version of what I buy in three months?
Ninja Edit: Oh yeah, how's the battery life? I only get about 2.5 hours now, and I'd like to bump that up.

How much are you willing to spend? The MacBook Pro is over kill for teh interweb but it'll last longer. Stuff like HD video and dual core fun.
Well, I've got bills, but I'm hoping I can get something financed through Apple. I don't mind if something isn't going to last for 4 or 5 years, because I honestly get tired of stuff before that time frame runs up.

I'd go with Amazon otherwise. Apple charges tax and you get rebates on Amazon if you don't get any discounts from Apple.

For what you wanna do I would be thinking the MacBook Pro might be a wee bit of overkill. I really wanna see what the next iBook (MacBook?) will be. My guess was that the Pro will be upgraded again before this year is out...but since they are giving the option to go up to 2.16...idk if they will.
Anywho I might be rambeling. I would imagine any intel based mac you get now will last you 5+yrs. (I'm still running a G3 and I might get a G4 next year) so lifespan wise you'll be good (i should hope)

Battery life wise...I have no clue. Apple says the new chips are more battery efficent, but they also run hotter and faster...so idk if that is negated or not. I don't expect to know how long the battery lasts till about a few days after the 'books start arriving.

Battery is about 3.5 hours on MBP. THat is with Airport, Bluetooth of and screen dimmed.
You should get an Intel based iBook when it is released. Or just a G4 iBook.

No, they did, I forgot where I saw it. It was a Jobs interview, so I guess it technically isn't official, but you can bet it won't be worse.

As far as laptop battery goes....I am a strong beliver in the Charge the battery all the way up, then unplug (don't continue on AC) and run it all the way down (but not until it shuts down).
I know they say you dont need to do that with new batteries on newer products, but I have continued doing this on mine, and so far, they have been great. Others, with the exact same product (like an iPod) and leave it pluged all the time, or just run it a little, then back on the charger, have battery issues over time.
How long until an intel based iBook Mosey?
