Anyone had a chance to play this? It is supposedly Beta, but it is very slow and buggy more like an alpha, yet it is still fun to play.

You can download the beta from fileplanet (http://www.fileplanet.com/160065/160000/fileinfo/Heroes-of-Might-&-Magic-V-Client)

For fans of the series, you may wish to check it out!

I dont think I have played any of the Heroes series. What's it like?

It's quite fun. Think Real Time Strategy meets Turn based RPG. You are a hero and you set off to conquer towns and castles, on the way recruiting creatures in order to fight other heroes, random packs of creatures etc. You scavenge for resources (ore, gems, gold etc.) to allow you to upgrade your castle/s or town/s which allows you to get new creatures for your party.

Each castle and each hero have a certain background eg Wizard, Necromancer etc. Each town or castle will create a certain breed of creatures. Eg Necromancy will give you dead creatures such as Skeletons, Vampires, Zombies and Bone Dragons.

Very fun game, my favourite from the series is still Heroes (of Might and Magic) 2. I hope the finished product of Heroes 5 will be a lot more polished than its current "Beta", however it is still fun to play.

to clarify, it is only real time strategy in the sense that you have armies and castles through out the map to guide. It is completely turn-based - you can leave the game at any time w/o losing anything when you come back - even in the middle of a battle.

I did not realize there had been 4 of 'em out there. I thought it was Heroes 3 that I played (i think I played a free demo version of 2), but I also thought it was the most recent. When was 4 released? if anytime in the last 5 years I must have missed 4.

Sorry let clarify, when I said "Think Real Time Strategy meets Turn based RPG" I meant that the look of the game resembles something like a Real Time Strategy, think Civilisation etc. however Peasantlover is indeed correct in saying it is completely turn based.

In regards to Heroes 4 I believe it came out 2002/2003 depending what country you are from.

Heroes 3 and to some extent the first Heroes game were the only ones I've really missed out on, I played Heroes 2 before I played the first one.

btw, civ is also turned based, not real time. haha.

have you actually played the beta. I downlaoded it.. its a pretty damn large file. anyway, the read me says its just multiplayer, no ai.. which kinda sucks (i played the beta of age of mythology and it was the same deal though, guess I shouldnt be surprised).. anyway after I installed it and loaded it up, it asked me for a verification code.. which I basically had to call them to get. Im not going to bother most likely, guess Ill wait for it to be released :(

Lol okay take your pick Warcraft, Command and Conquer etc.

Yeah I have played the Beta, fun to play, just a tad unstable at present. The Beta is online multiplayer, however I've heard there is a patch you can download to unlock single player.

So far pretty good, I just find it a tad slow and unstable at present. You can wait ages for the other player to make their turn sometimes.
