so i'm like 105 hours into DQVIII and finally decided to play the FFXII demo. well, it sucks. the fighting is hella-lame. it's just like you run around the enemy in circles to avoid attacks while your attack charges up. i can understand getting rid of random battles, but once you initiate a fight, give me a freakin traditional battle scene, not some crappy real-time junk.

i'm not the only person who thought that was bs. hurray. i'm not alone. but since its a demo. it proly isn't the finall way the battles will be. ya mean. hopefully. it looks nice thow.

It's the final battlestyle. Why do you hate the new battles? I think it's great. Also, you know that you can change the battlestyle in the options menu, right?

I don't even like battles that much, so it doesn't matter. However, the change doesn't seem that bad though. But I am not looking forward to the new battle engine, but rather the real-time world, airship battles, graphics, music and story. :)

It's the final battle style, but that doesn't mean absolutly everything is final. There has been a little outcry on the internet over the demo, but most people seem to like it, and I like it, but I think they could make it much better. I buy FF's for the story for the most part anyway, and if we do get to play airship battle I will be extremly happy, provided they are done well, which I imagine they will be.

I personally LOVE the new battle system. Just like FF11...makes more sence to have it that way. All in real time is a good thing. Yes, I liked the battle scene from the pervious FF's, but it's time for a change and this is perfect in my opinion.

I don't mind realtime gameplay either. Now it would be much eassier to evade battles. I hate fighting weak monsters, and I prefer to search for items/equipment without being interrupted by random encounters.

Yeah...I think there's more good than bad here. And roses, u only say one bad thing about the system-you can run around to avoid attacks. What about all the other positives that's mentioned by others here which outweight that one bad thing IMO. And I'm sure that with tougher monsters, u won't be able to just run around and not get killed instantly. I believe there is a block and parry system in there as well-give it a chance bre', it seems way deeper than any FF I've ever played. And of course the cut-scenes, story and graphics are gonna be top-notch-the gameplay is where the bulk of the game is tho. And it's looking to impress. When you've played as much RPG's as I have, you tend to "Welcome Change"...:stunned:

Personally, I thought this was the best battle system in the final fantasy universe yet.
The only battle system I like better would have to be from the latest Grandia entries.
Repeated classic turned-based battles of yesteryear seem too simple. There is nothing special about them when you think about it because they are so basic (albiet still enjoyable).
Livening up the battle system is just what the series called for, and this new battle system does it well allowing much more interactivity.
I was completely impressed with the since of freedom allowed in this new FF title and I guess that is why this specific battle system fits so well, because it's very free form.

totally agree. in fact, avoiding random battles is the main reason why I use a gameshark (but only in my second run in the game of course ;) )
FF12's system looks very welcomed since they make you chose to fight or not.

I really didn't like the demo... the graphics were unimpressive... not a leap over X-2. The battle mechanic felt strange. I like making careful decisions about actions. I didn't really know what to do besides attack in the demo either. FF's style has been too "bright" and clean lately. Was anyone excited by the "standard beach" environment with a clear blue sky? IMO FF should head towards more realistic or interesting environments. Since when do all the great adventures take place along the French Riviera?
DQVIII on the other hand, besides having bad music and some kiddy elements, has been a lot of fun so far (60 hours in), though the environments in it have also been uninspired.

The devs at square have pushed the system pretty hard and I don't think they can do any better than FFXII.
As for the battle system, the wait system should be alittle more intune with your playing style.
I Don't mind either system since I play FFVI alot and I play with both the active and wait systems.

I wasn't overly impressed with the gameplay in the demo, but it was a very limited demo. I didn't feel that it was bad, but just not quite what I was expecting. I did like the cinematics, though, and it looks like it's gonna be a hell of a story.

Well, all I have to say is:
If FFXII doesn't redeem the FF series, then that's probably it for me. FFX has been going down hill ever since I played X and X-2, and I thought both were horrendous (not just horrible).
The Demo wasn't overly impressive, but it's not the final version yet, so there may be some tweaks and such that'll probably make the battles more challenging.
