1. Security, security, security
2. Internet Explorer 7
3. Righteous eye candy
4. Desktop search
5. Better updates
6. More media
7. Parental controls
8. Better backups
9. Peer-to-peer collaboration
10. Quick setup
The article of course expands on all the listed features.
After reading, It really seemed more like "hey we finally caught up and used features from other systems people like that set them apart" instead of a "hey this is totally new and inovating!"

I'm supprised they didn't throw Halo 2 in that list. Part of me wants to see what this is all about, but then the other half of me just reminds me of the annoyance that I had to put up with.
Here is hoping it actually is more secure.

1. They talked about security for Vista too. It has been beaten to death by Microsoft in each new version of Windows as a feature but with little to no success.
2. FireFox, you know it too.
3. Once again, catch up with everyone else. Even Linux.

Windows now has an easy start up seen in a OS released in 2001!

That would be crazy if they had Halo 2 in the games menu in with Solitair and 3D pinball.

Yeah I saw an alpha of Vista last summer when I was at mircosoft's campus, meet the guy who was designing the "games folder". It looked nice just at that stage looked like xp with a scrollbar to change the color theme.

2 Reasons not to buy Vista
1 will be buggy and have many holes like the rest of the MS's OSes
2 will eat memory like a fat man at a hotdog eating contest
Eyecandy is nice but if it uses 80% of 2 GB of ram then it is bad.

Since this is kind about vista...I wanna know from all the WinXPers out there. Are you a bit peeved that Halo 2 won't be able to play on XP? I find it hard to belive that XP couldn't handle the game.

It could handle it, they just aren't programming it for it.

It could handle it, they just aren't programming it for it.The Battlefield 2 demo runs on Windows 2000. However the full game requires XP. Yes, people have worked around it to get it to run on 2000. It's just not 100% compatible with certain hardware drivers and it's not the OS.
^The more I hear that, the more I can't believe it. Not being able to play Halo 2 on XP is just crazy!

^The more I hear that, the more I can't believe it. Not being able to play Halo 2 on XP is just crazy! It's forced obsolescence via operating system instead of hardware. Windows 2000 is still a very capable operating system.

Play it on your Xbox, it probably plays better anyway.

I wouln't want to touch Vista for a while. Mainly because of DRM and HDCP.

I have 4 gigs of ram in my rig right now, so I'll probably get Vista so that its fully supported. However does anybody know if Vista would stop me from doing any sort of Bittorrent activities or anything of the sort? I heard something about Vista having blocks for this stuff but I can't find any information on it.
I can't wait to get Vista, the sleekness of the beta's has been enough to make me want it, even with my current tricked out install of XP Pro.

I hope they make it impossible to steal like Half Life 2. Encrypt files on a CD yay!

Actually this new OS is supposed to be even easier to crack than XP was. They're saying that it should take less than a week to have it online.
But does anybody know the answer to my question that I asked earlier? I'll give a +rep to the person that does the research on this!

I haven't heard about blockage of ports for Vista but you better bet your sweet ass that Microsoft is fully going to combat Digital Piracy with Vista. So yeah, its not definitive but its not out of the realm of possability.
Even if this is the case, there will always be holes or exploits that a user can take to get around this. Remember this is Microsoft we're talking about...

I tested last night, I can still run my bittorrent client on my Vista beta. I did not have any problems.
