View Full Version : Best Game Soundtracks
What game has the best soundtrack?
I vote for Wild Arms I/II and Suikoden I/II. These games have the single best soundtracks in the industry. Wild arms has a very ear-candy werstern-asian sountrack, while Suikoden on the otherhand is very Asian and pleasant. It fits in well with the mood of the game. Probably the best music I have heard in any game.
Ummmm... Wipeout 2097, Final Fantasy VII and X, Pretty much all the Ridge Racers, Ico, Shadow of the colossus, Silent Hill...
I'm sure that I could add more, but I just can't remember.

LOZ for sure... OoT being my favorite out of the series.
A lot of music in the mario series, especially the original ones, are memorable.
I really liked Chrono Trigger as well.
SSBM had an amazing soundtrack as well.
For some reason RPGs always seem to have the best soundtrack. I guess it's because they are really interactive stories and music really helps to tell the story.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, by Amon Tobin, was a surprise at first, and an incredibly good album.
Grim Fandango is another one of my favorites.
So is the soundtrack from Deus Ex.
And I always enjoy listening to the music from Kirby Superstar.

Eternal Darkness has a spooky ass soundtrack. They actually released the soundtrack on CD with little bits from the characters in the game.
Other than that Metroid has some great songs, FFVII, Zelda. I liked the Perfect Dark soundtrack too. 'Chicago' is an amazing song.

ill go through my list of music and name the awsomest of awsome soundtracks.
-Every Zelda game. Mainly OoT and WW. I have to mention the Hyrule Symphony, whos music isnt in any games, but its orchestrated OoT music. Mostly dont with string instruments, this collection rules so hard.
-Every Mario game. Mario Sunshine is particularly cool, what with the Delfino Plaza song. And the secret level music, oh yeh! And how could we forget Mario 64? I dont think i need to say anything about that...
-DK Country on SNES had a nice one.
-Yoshi's Island, although its a mario game, has an awsome soundtrack. the intro/main theme (at the title screen) is amazing
-Mario kart DD is nicely done.
-Banjo Kazooie is one of the best
-Katamari Damacy is a bit of alright
-F-Zero GX is great, which is something considering I loathe techno music.
-FF:Tactics Advance is good, especially for a GBA game.
-FF: Crystal Chronicles is awsome. The 'Kazeone' song or whatever its called is one of my favorites. its the one with the woman singing in japanese.
-Metroid Prime 1+2. I like the first one better because it has more element themed music. For example, the lava/fire 'level' music suits the location almost as perfectly as the ice place.
-Halo 1+2 is very well done.
-Paper Mario 2 has a few catchy tunes.
-Advance Wars music is very well suited for the game. its awsome.
-And last but not least, my favorite soundtrack of all time: Super Smash Bros. Melee. It has the best songs from all the greatest Nintendo games, all re-done so they are nice and fresh.

Ah, I forgot about Katamari Damacy and Super Mario Sunshine. How could I forget the obnoxiously catchy acid-trip that is KD's music and both types of secret level music from SMS (and the rest to a leser extent)?

I really like your selections. The Wild Arms theme with the whistling (http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/1474/2) is fucking awesome. And Suikoden I and II have amazing music too. Avertuneiro Antes Lance Mao (http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/740/54) (music that plays at the end of Suikoden I when it goes through what happened to all 108 stars of destiny after the war) is very beautiful in particular. And as for Suikoden II, Gothic Neclord (http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/169/50) is very nice.
Konami games as a rule have well written music. The Castlevania series has never failed to impress me in this area. I think my favorite Castlevania song is Bloody Tears, of which the best rendition is in Super Castlevania IV.
I'm playing through Secret of Evermore right now, and let me say that it has some of the most realistic ambiance I have ever heard, and it is an SNES game. The music is great too, very moody and it creates an immersing atmosphere.
Earthbound has some very interesting music. Can you think of another RPG that has battle music like Earthbound?
The Final Fantasy series has quite a few memorable melodies, and when it's played by the Black Mages it can't get any better.
There is so much more I like... I have always really enjoyed appreciating video game music.

^huh?
Whenever someone asks me what music i listen to, i say i dont listen to music. they would think im insane if i listened to just video game music - which i do. but im not insane. I highly doubt anyone other than people who are hardcore gamers would ever take game music seriously. :(
btw, how could i forget Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat? That music r0xx0rz. I want it on mp3's but its no where. you cant even buy it anywhere. grr.

I was 'singing' SMS music. You know those fucking 1337 levels where you dont have the water pack and the music is people singing "do do do do do do dooooooo"?
Yes I have that song. Yes you may worship me.

Very, very true.
Some of the games that stand out in my mind at the moment (in no particular order):
Super Metroid
Donkey Kong Country
Final Fantasy VI (III on the SNES)
Mega Man (original series and X series; I just dig the catchy beats)
Super Castlevania (IV)
The Legend of Zelda (all of them, but especially Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask)
Tales of Symphonia
Secret of Mana
F-Zero (original, X, and GX)
Halo (both)
Fable (dig the opening score)

Gran Turismo!! maybe it's just the nostalgia kicking in, but the menumusic was great, and the songs just seemed to blend in really well with the game, it's half the reason i still go back and play GT1..... wipeout series is always good too, 2097 and 3 probably the best....
