Okay, perhaps a month back I joined a guild in WoW, and they like to use Team Speak to communicate, so I installed it. Unfortunately, my voice never seemed to register through the microphone. I messed with it a great deal and tested with Voice Recorder, but couldn't get my voice to go through very well at all. I could barely hear it, if at all.

Well, I supposed that my microphone just sucked, so I bought a new one; one of those headset deals. I tried it and had the exact same problem. Well, I more or less gave up on it altogether, but tried it again earlier this afternoon. Surprisingly, my voice went through Team Speak just fine. However, maybe ten minutes later when I tried to speak, nobody could hear me. I know the problem isn't TS because I again tested with Voice Recorder.

Occasionally, Voice Recorder recorded and played back my voice just fine. More often than not, it was just like before: either picking up nothing at all or just barely. The thing of it is that it just comes and goes. Both the old mic and the brand new one get the exact same results, and this happens without touching or doing anything.

My computer has jacks on both the front and back of the tower for the mic and headphones, and I tried both with the same results. So, the problem doesn't seem to be faulty jacks (unless both just happened to be bad which seems like a long shot), doesn't seem to be the microphones themselves (unless both just happened to be bad which seems like a long shot), and isn't Team Speak since it is also a problem with Sound Recorder.

If none of the above are my problem, does any of our resident computer geeks have any other ideas?

Check volume controls, go to advance and check if monitor is on.

Realtek AC97
ALC850

Check volume controls, go to advance and check if monitor is on.

I didn't see that option anywhere. I've piddled with various controls and settings and everything seems to be in order. In the Volume Control screen, nothing is muted, and volumes are all cranked up. If I go Advanced, the only thing I can do is check or uncheck a "Mic Boost" option.

It could be possible that your sound card does not support recordings.

^ That's a good place to start to take a look. See if you can reinstall your sound drivers.

I downloaded the latest drivers last night. I think mine might have been slightly out of date. I haven't yet had time to piddle with the mic to see if it does any better for me, yet, but I hope that takes care of it.

Okay, I finally got to test it, and nothing's changed. The drivers didn't help any.
