Have you tried throwing in your windows disk and running a repair install?

Sounds like it locked him/her out.

Maybe Microsoft wants you to buy another license? I'm surprised that you didn't reinstall Windows after you put in that new motherboard.

In the future, you may want to reinstall when making a large hardware change. I also know a lot of people that use sysprep http://www.appdeploy.com/downloads/detail.asp?id=258

It will remove some of the HAL settings that will allow you to completly move a HDD into a new system if you wanted too. I have had sucess with it, but I have heard it still BSOD sometimes.

You wont have to buy a new licence from MS, you can call and they can send you a key that unlocks (as long as you key is not black listed). They will even unlock some dirty keys too.

Yeah, my motherboard has been dead for aroun 3-4 months, and I finally decided to fix it, kind of a spur of the moment type thing. Obviously, I didn't think it through. I have an old harddrive lying around somewhere, I'll reformat it and use my ubuntu live cd to back up my files, then reinstall windows.
