View Full Version : RUMOR: Sony is preparing a PS3 MMO.

Would you be surprised to hear that Sony is currently working on an MMO for the PlayStation 3? No? Well it's just a rumor at this point (even though it makes total sense) so be sure to at least act surprised if (when) we get official confirmation. Right now Gamefront is reporting that just such a project is underway and the word on the street is that Level 5 (makers of True Fantasy Online) are behind the developers wheel. Hopefully we'll get confirmation or denial soon.

If it's Factor 5 though that would be something new and different, since it would likely mean it was an SCE MMORPG project vs one of the SOE ones.

Level 5 not Factor 5, yeah I get them cunfused too. Level 5 made the Dark Cloud games.

this is very old news. Sony has confirmed there are at least one MMO for PS3. they showed a demo at E3 and said it was from an unannounced MMO. they also have an MMO game based on DC comics that will appear on PSP and PS3 (not 100% sure about a PSP version).
and let us not forget Untold Legends which is said to have online play. after all, SOE (Sony Onlie Entertainment) made Everquest for PS2 along with a PC version. of course they will make MMOs for PS3, not to mention other big devs. X2 is getting MMOs, why shouldn't PS3?

As I stated in the comments section of original article, this is neither the MMO demo shown at E3 (a tech demo by SOE, not a game), nor is this the DC Comics MMO, it isn't Everquest 2, nor is it Untold Legends. It's being developed by Level 5, makers of True Fantasy Online. It's a completely new rumor, as much of a no brainer as it is.

that part shown in E3 wasn't a pure tech demo. Phill said during the video that "this is a demo from an unanounced MMO in the works". he also said the exploding gas station was also from an unannounced PS3 game as well (Twisted Metal?).

I don't have the E3 footage with me know, so maybe someone can confirm whether he actually said it was from an RPG or an MMO. but it was from a game in progress.
It's being developed by Level 5, makers of True Fantasy Online. It's a completely new rumor, as much of a no brainer as it is.
if it is a rumor, I will be carefull not to get overly excited. Level 5 have arguably the best cell-shading talent out there. they are the makers of not only the Dark Cloud series, but also DQ8 and the upcoming Rogue Galaxy. all of these sprout amazing cell-shading art!

PS. Factor 5 are the creators of Lair.

I remember the part about the gas station, but I seem to remember him saying the MMO demo was from our friends at SOE. Either way, as I stated this isn't from SOE, it's a totally new project, we'll see if it pans out.

yes, the E3 one is from SOE (sadly), but my point is that it was said to be an unannounced PS3 RPG (not sure if it is an MMO).

as for the one you mention fromLevel 5; like I said, I won't get my hopes up till I know for sure. Level 5 has great talent. it is a given that they will be making PS3 games. I don't know how an MMO will pan out though.
