What can Linux bring to PS3?

Okay this is really a thread to bring all of your knowledge together. some of you are probably like me and know very little about the OS. Are there any advantages over Win? does it take up less space? who supports it? you get the picture...

Linux is much more stable than windows.
Linux has been known to run upwards of 100 days without a crash.
Our school server runs windows and tends to crash from time to time, taking 15minutes to auto reboot in which time we have no access to anything except whats on the immediate computer

im not a fan of ms but ever since i changed to sp2 ive never had any trouble with it.
