Microsoft has announced what it is calling an Xbox 360 "inventory surge", stating that the company will distribute "two to three times the number of Xbox 360 consoles to the retail channel weekly", beginning this week; Marketplace hits 10 million downloads.
ImagePeter Moore's DICE Summit promise ("Within the next four to six weeks, anybody will be able to walk into a store and buy an Xbox 360") looks like it just may come to fruition. Microsoft stated that component supplies are in "full production", with all three Xbox 360 manufacturers -- Wistron, Flextronics and Celestica -- cranking out systems.
"Today we have turned a major corner," said Xbox boss Peter Moore. "With more consoles on their way to retail, 80 games available by June, and new content and experiences coming to Xbox Live all the time, there has never been a better time to own an Xbox 360."
The announcement also confirmed new vehicles, achievements and other downloadable content for Project Gotham Racing 3, maps for Perfect Dark Zero and co-op gameplay and costumes for Kameo: Elements of Power.
Microsoft also noted that the Xbox Live Marketplace boasts over 10 million downloads, a milestone that the company said was reached faster than iTunes when the music platform first launched.
