Okay so one day my computer decided that it would be cool to just not play sounds anymore. I checked the speakers and they are plugged it. Then i went to volume control and the computer gave me an error message saying that i dont have a sound device installed. I've been looking all over my help and support but it doesnt tell me how to deal with this problem and i am completely clueless, some1 please help me.

Revert to a system restore point, to a time when they worked. Same thing happened me and it works fine after that.

Alternately, you could also try updating your sound card drivers. If a sound device cannot be found, open your case and make sure the card didn't somehow become loose or damaged. Mine recently decided to go on a little paid vacation, taking the usability of my PC with it (most likely a flaw in the driver update program, or perhaps Windows just likes being called shitty).
Long story short - do as I command.
Or use a restore point, that's good too. That option was never really ideal for me, since I'd end up losing something important anyway.

I don't know restore points can be a bitch when your registry get's corrupted you have to run through a hell of a lot of hoops to get even to the point where ya can use it and if ya don't have another computer to read the complicated instructions from you're fucked. That was good fun.

^ I never use them for that same reason. I always thought they were worthless and taking up space (so of course they are off on all my machines), but recently I have seen a lot of people using them successfuly.

They work...to a point. They are even a bit more fun because they fail when norton internet secutiry is installed if you attempt a restore point and are not in safe mode. Great fun for the common user. Besides, even if windows does not boot, you can access restore points with ERD commander 2005. Of course you have to pay of it , wink wink nudge nudge.

Edit::

Don't forget that you have to disable system restore as it has a pesky tendancy to back up virus and spyware data that can re-infect your system from the restore file. ugh...

The alternate is getting norton go-back , which is like system restore ultra and work with all data, not just mainly registry. The problem problem is your computer takes a performance hit that you will notice as increased harddrive activity. Currently, I an quite a fan of Acronis true image 9. One button back up to hidden paritions, great compression, staggered backups, etc.

Oh, hello and bye again.
