Well, I have been hanging out down at the TATOO shop lately and they all play BF2(when not busy), so I have as well, only I have been using my buddy's account. After winning several Gold and Silver Stars for him I have decided to upgrade my PC and create an account so I can pwn with the rest of em!
Just ordered the eVGA Nvidia 7900 GT(500Mhz) card, and am going to Frys shortly to pic up the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ & ASUS A8N32-SLI board combo along with 2GB of PC3200 DDR memory.
I Can't wait to get this up and running! total cost right now is about $950....
My case and HDD are sufficient and although my LCD monitor is rather old, it will suffice(for now)
I haven't played any PC games in a while, but have an itch to get back into it.

a little too pricy right now, plus there is not much out there beating AMD on the ASUS SLI(nvidia) board
(of course I didn't go top of ht eline this time, but I can upgrade)

Yeah that machine looks nice. I just hope you can live with your LCD and hard drive.
Also, the iMac is $1099 refurbished, $1199 education, and $1299 retail. Not that you can't buy it off of Amazon. Skip sales tax and get a mail in rebate.

7900 GT is the best bang for your buck(performance and all)
I will be getting another one soon and SLI those puppies!
Also, I was looking at dual core, but didn't want to spend the money now.
I will prbably upgrade next year sometime. I'm in no rush, its s good enough processor for now.

yeah, but how hard are they to find? Its prety hard to find a 7900GT in stock right now for a good price. Got mine for around $350(expedited shipping included) and its not in yet, I should get it today or tomorrow. My substitiute carfd is crap, so I am not getting all the perfomrnace yet. Once I do I'll go to the "How fast is your PC" thread and run the cloud test. But I do fell your pain, they are trying to get the 7800's cards out now because the 7900's are already flying off the shelves.

I won't get my card until tomorrow, so I'll update tomorrow evening or Thursday morning.
Though I doubt it considering you have hte bettter CPU and GPU, mine should be comparable of ourse, but not too close.....

It's a bit too late, but if you get a AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 X2 Core, with ASUS A8N-SLI Preimium, 4GB DDRRAM (PC4000), and the quad GeForce 7900 GTX SLI, then you would have an unbeatable system. Oh, yea, you also can't forget about the PhysX card, either. Boy, doesn't your PC seem old now?

nah, I upgraded mine for way cheaper than what that would have costed, and it still outperforms most PC's right now.....(side note, I heard there were some system issues with running 4GB RAM on those MB's - that's why I only have 2GB for mine)
here are teh #'s for the CLOUD test
....if you don't know whtat I'm talking about; go to tech central and under windows/PC you will find a thread titled "How powerful is your PC" and cross reference my stats against everybody elses.

Yeah, if you fill up all four slots with ram they run slower (i can't recall exactly how much, but for DDR 400 they run at far less than the rated 200mhz speed)
And yes, welcome.

I thought it was just that you lose dual channel not that the memory itself runs any slower?

hmmmm, i googled it and it seems that it is the timings that gets slower with all slots filled.
PS this is only on AMD motherboards btw
